Walk on the Reef.

It is part of the Great Barrier Reef and is heritage listed. King Reef features hundreds of examples of all three coral types - hard, soft and flowering. The warm, shallow waters are home to a myriad of marine life including tropical reef fish, the world-famous painted crays, manta rays, and giant clams. Our beach is a rare nesting ground for turtles and you will see many different species of turtle on King Reef.

Cruise the blue waters of the Coral Sea with a small select group, whether you want to fish, snorkel or explore deserted islands or combine all three local boating companies can tailor make a cruise to suit your individual requirements.

If you prefer to explore the reef under your own terms we highly recommend the glass bottom kayaks available for hire in town. Prices start at $39 for a single kayak for 2 hours or $49 for a double kayak for 2 hours.

Lets Go Swimming 💦

If you prefer clear mountain creeks for a refreshing dip there are lots of waterholes within a 30 minute drive from here. Our suggestion is to try swimming in the waterfall at Josephine Falls and slide down the natural slippery dip.

The quiet, long beach alongside King Reef is the main attraction and when staying at Helen's on the beach it is on your doorstep! Wake up with a coffee and watch on as the manta rays trawl the beach shallows and turtles come in to nest (in season). From here you can stroll down to the King Reef Restaurant & Bar, local cafe and takeaway store.

Kurrimine Beach is a fisherman's utopia. Where else do you have a choice of beach, estuary or reef fishing all within less than 1km! Abundant species of fish and the famous painted crayfish are just waiting a couple of metres off shore.

No boat? No problem! The beach fishing is superb. For those with boats, there are two official boat ramps to make life easy.

A Little Local Knowledge 🚜

The first thing you notice about beautiful Kurrimine Beach is all the old tractors – every home seems to have one. If you're wondering why, they are needed to launch boats from the tidal boat ramp at the northern end of the beach.
