A milestone birthday in late July, and Iceland sounded like just the place I’d love to be! 🇮🇸
Snorkelling at Silfra in Þingvellir National Park topped the bucket list, and booking the very first slot of the morning to float between tectonic plates felt like a pretty special way to start 60! 🥳
Dry suits aren’t the most comfortable on land, but once you plunge into the clearest water imaginable, you’re completely blown away. Despite the 2–4°C year-round temperature, we stayed surprisingly warm during the 45-minute drift.
While you can’t actually touch Europe and North America at the exact same time on the route, floating through this massive fissure with over 100 metres of visibility is an incredible, weightless experience.
Two quick tips if you go:
⏱️ Book the first slot: Avoid the long lines of people waiting around on land in heavy dry suits.
🦟 Pack a midge net: The July bugs were out in full force by the lake!
