My perfect Friday playing tourist in my own city!
Start the morning with a long black from Lekoh on George Street. On warm days, you’ll find me outside soaking up the sunshine with an iced version in hand. Then it’s time for a little gallery hop: first stop Madeline Gordon Gallery (right next door), then a wander over to dAda mUse on Cimitiere Street for a dose of quirk and colour.
No visit to Launnie is complete without a stop at Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery on Wellington Street. I love to check out the changing exhibitions, and stop in to the First Nations Exhibition — an important, grounding part of the day.
From there, I wander down to Seaport for a sunny stroll and oysters at Mudbar Restaurant. After all that wandering, I’ve definitely worked up an appetite and my eyes are always bigger than my belly at Sun & Moon Eatery. Their set menus are packed with flavour and creativity, highly recommend!
Next, a little culture crawl: a visit to Petrarch's Bookshop and a flip through the albums at Avenue Records (record & book stores are a must when I travel!).
As the afternoon rolls on, I’d sneak in a quick local brew at The Royal Oak Hotel, a Launnie classic, before joining the Heart of Launceston tour to discover the stories of the city (including that very pub!).
Still a bit full from lunch, I’d wind down post-tour with bubbles and a cheese platter (with pickles, of course) at Dill Pickle Club, spinning vinyl in one of the best-designed spaces in town.
If I’ve got a second wind? You’ll find me enjoying the American blues energy at Midnight Rambler before calling it a night in the best little city around.
