Mount Mee or Dahmongah meaning 'flying squirrel' was the local aboriginal name for Mt Mee. The name Mt Mee was possibly derived from the aboriginal word 'mia-mia' meaning view or lookout, but did not come into use until 1899 with the advent of a school in the area.

Red cedar was the timber most highly prized by the early timber getters and its abundance at Mt Mee ensured that the timber of the area would be used, along with hoop pine, crows ash and flooded gum. Bullock teams were brought in to haul the logs to the local sawmills at Caboolture, Woodford and D'Aguilar. Later a sawmill was built at Mt Mee itself and this structure still stands today on the area known as the Gantry Day Use area.

Over time, dairying and banana growing became other viable industries and a small settlement soon sprung up along the ridges which are part of the D'Aguilar Range.

Mount Stanley Hunting Reserve offers beautiful stunning views of the far upper reaches of the Brisbane river. Fish species include spangled perch, bass and cod.
This is a hunting reserve so during deer hunting season be aware of your surroundings. Ticks are around too so check yourself over when you get home.
My daughter Jewels and her friend enjoyed the sights. I hope you enjoy too.

Muntapa Tunnel is Queensland’s longest straight railway tunnel at 287 metres. The disused tunnel is now home to a colony of bent winged bats. The tunnel was opened in 1913 and was closed in 1964. This is a great day drip from the caravan park, there is a toilet and picnic area so it’s a great place to rest and have a picnic. While you cannot walk all the way through the tunnel (there is a section in the middle closed off to protect the bats), you can walk in each end.

One end is down a flight of stairs – good quality new stairs.

The other end is a trail into the end of the tunnel where you can go in far enough to feel the change in temperature and need a torch. A great adventure for the kids!

Lake Broadwater Dalby! Bird life, Kangaroos and many more animals here.

Lake Broadwater is the focal point of a 1,212ha conservation park situated in one of the most intensively cultivated agricultural districts in Queensland. The lake is a good example of a semi-permanent freshwater lake in an area where these are rare.

The conservation park is also one of a few locations on the northern Darling Downs where the landforms and soil types of the region remain uncultivated or ungrazed.

The lake itself covers approximately 350ha and is only 3–4m deep when full. Resembling a large tadpole from the air, Lake Broadwater lies on a broad alluvial plain which drains northwards into the Condamine River via Wilkie Creek. It is fed from two ephemeral streams (Broadwater and Surveyor’s gullies) draining a local catchment of about 6,000ha—most of which lies outside the park. Occasionally the lake floods during periods of summer rainfall, and may also dry out completely.

A low gravelly ridge divides Lake Broadwater from the alluvial plains along the Condamine River to the north. The lake itself was probably formed when high energy floodwaters spilling from the Condamine River gouged out a weak section of soil to form a depression. Subsequent high energy flood events would have continued to scoop it out and once the lake was deep enough, trees and shrubs could not regrow on the bottom. Vegetation which has grown up around the lake over time has acted as a silt trap and created a low levee around the lake. Survey records show that the lake has changed little since 1877. It is however slowly getting shallower over time.

I got a rare opportunity to film an echidna live in the wild!

The Muntapa Tunnel is a tunnel for an old railway branch line from Oakey through to Cooyar that operated between 1913 and 1964.

The tunnel is Queensland’s longest straight railway tunnel at 287m long, and the only tunnel in Australia that crossed between the inland and coastal sides of the Great Dividing Range, connecting two different water catchment areas.

Railway branch lines played an important role in pioneering of regional area providing support to small-scale agriculture. With the improvement of roads and faster road transport, branch lines became redundant and closed.

The tunnel took some 13 months to bore through, with families of the workers living on site at Muntapa. The government set up a school to educate their children on site, one of few buildings with most living in tents.

The tunnel interior is formed with concrete, first used in the 1880s when it was found to be more economical than brick or masonry. 1912

It's been a while between posts. Len has been in a new car but working hard at 2 jobs 3 if you class children as a job.

All this has led me to realise the importance of green exercise. So today in Murwillumbah in NSW I shot the mountains near Mt Warning. So enjoy this 360 view 500 mtr suspended in the air.
