🚒 TRAVEL DEBATES

Are balcony cabins really worth the extra money?

It's probably one of the most common cabin questions I get asked.

My answer?

It depends completely on the cruise.

For something like Alaska or the Norwegian Fjords, where the scenery is a huge part of the experience, I'd personally put much more value on having that private balcony.

Morning coffee while sailing through a fjord, watching glaciers from your cabin, or simply opening the door and getting some fresh air... that's pretty hard to beat.

But on a really port-heavy itinerary where you're off the ship most days?

That's where I think an Oceanview can be a really smart choice.

You still get the natural light and a view, but the money you save could go towards experiences ashore, dining, drinks... or even the next holiday.

So for me, it's never simply:

"Balcony is better."

It's about whether the balcony is worth it on that particular cruise.

πŸ‘‡ What camp are you in?

🌊 Balcony every time?

πŸͺŸ Oceanview and spend the extra money elsewhere?

Or does it completely depend on where you're cruising?

🌍 Where Should You Travel in 2027?

If you’re already dreaming about your next big adventure, now is a fantastic time to start planning.

Many of the most popular holidays and cruises for 2027 are already on sale, and the best dates, cabins and accommodation often go to those who plan early.

If I had to choose five incredible holidays for 2027, these would be right at the top of my list:

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦ Canada & Alaska
The Canadian Rockies by rail, spectacular scenery and the option to combine it with an unforgettable Alaska cruise.

πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅ Japan Ski Holiday
Incredible powder, amazing food and a culture unlike anywhere else.

πŸ‡³πŸ‡΄ Norwegian Fjords
One of the most spectacular cruise destinations on the planet.

πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ά Antarctica
A true bucket-list expedition and an experience unlike anywhere else on Earth.

🐘 African Safari
Incredible wildlife encounters, beautiful lodges and memories that will stay with you forever.

Every one of these holidays offers something completely different, and that’s what makes choosing so difficult.

πŸ‘‡ If you could choose just ONE for 2027, which would it be?

Let me know in the comments. And if one of these is already on your radar, feel free to reach out and we can start putting some ideas together.

✈️ TRAVEL TRUTHS

Most people think travel insurance and travel assistance are exactly the same thing.

It's more than just an insurance policy.

Travel insurance helps protect you financially if something goes wrong.

Travel assistance is about having real people there to help you when something goes wrong.

Think about it...

You're admitted to hospital overseas.

You're stranded because of severe weather.

You've lost your passport.

At that point, you don't just need an insurance policy.

You need someone to answer the phone.

Someone who can help organise your medical care.

Someone who can liaise with hospitals and airlines.

Someone who can guide you through one of the most stressful situations you'll hopefully never experience.

I've actually had to use travel assistance myself.

Once when I was snowed in and stranded in New York, and another couple of times for minor medical issues while travelling.

Thankfully, nothing major.

But having someone there to help made all the difference.

That's one of the biggest reasons I recommend the travel insurance provider I work with.

It's not just because of the policy. It's because I know my clients have access to a 24/7 Australian-based assistance team if they ever need help while travelling.

For me, that's the real value.

πŸ‘‡ Did you know there was a difference between travel insurance and travel assistance? Have you ever had to use either while travelling?

✈️ TRAVEL DEBATES

One of the questions I get asked on a regular basis is...

"Is Business Class really worth it?"

My answer?

Absolutely... if it fits your budget.

I've been lucky enough to fly Business Class around 13 times, mostly thanks to heavily discounted staff travel, and I honestly think it's an incredible way to travel.

Better sleep.

Lounge access.

Arriving refreshed.

It can completely change the way you start a holiday.

But here's the catch...

If flying Business Class means cutting your holiday short or missing out on unforgettable experiences...

I'd probably tell you to fly Economy or Premium Economy instead.

And here's something that surprises a lot of people...

Even after visiting 42 countries, I still usually fly Economy.

Not because I don't love Business Class.

I absolutely do.

The reality is, Business Class isn't something I can justify these days, so I'd rather put that money towards my next adventure.

For me, travelling more often beats travelling more comfortably.

πŸ‘‡ Now I'd love to hear from you...

If someone handed you a free Business Class ticket tomorrow...

🌍 Where in the world would you fly?

✈️ And which airline's Business Class would you most love to experience?

When people hear "Japan", most immediately think of one thing...

Snow.

And to be fair, the skiing and snowboarding are world class.

But that is only one part of why Japan sits comfortably in my top five destinations.

The food is incredible.

The culture is unlike anywhere else I have experienced.

The trains run on time, the streets are spotless, the people are incredibly polite, and everything just seems to work.

Whether it is wandering through Tokyo, relaxing in an onsen, exploring a small laneway restaurant, or riding the chairlift after fresh snowfall, Japan has this way of making you think...

"Why didn't I come here sooner?"

With Christmas, New Year and ski season being some of the busiest times to travel, now is a great time to start planning if Japan is on your radar.

The best flights, hotels and ski accommodation are usually snapped up well in advance.

If you could spend two weeks anywhere in Japan, where would you go first?

One thing I've noticed after years of helping people book their first cruise...

Almost everyone believes at least one of these five myths.

The funny part?

Many come home already planning their next cruise.

🚒 Myth #1 – "Cruises are only for retirees."

That might have been true years ago, but cruising has changed dramatically. Today there's genuinely a cruise for almost everyone, whether you're travelling as a couple, a family, with friends or looking for a luxury escape.

🌊 Myth #2 – "I'll be seasick the whole time."

Modern cruise ships are incredibly stable. Most first-time cruisers are surprised by how little movement they actually notice.

🍽️ Myth #3 – "The food is just buffets."

Buffets are only one option. Most ships also offer multiple restaurants, specialty dining, cafΓ©s and some genuinely outstanding fine dining experiences.

🎭 Myth #4 – "I'll get bored."

Between live entertainment, pools, bars, spas, fitness centres, shore excursions and activities throughout the day, you'll probably wish you had more timeβ€”not more things to do.

πŸ’° Myth #5 – "Cruising is too expensive."

When you consider your accommodation, transport between destinations, entertainment and most meals are already included, cruising often represents excellent value compared to a traditional holiday.

Now I'm curious...

Have you cruised before?

If so... what surprised you the most?

And if you haven't... what's the one thing that's stopping you? πŸ‘‡

One of the questions I get asked all the time is...

"After visiting 42 countries, what's your favourite?"

The truth is, I don't think I could ever choose just one.

But these five are the destinations that genuinely exceeded every expectation I had.

πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅ Japan – I came for the snowboarding, but it was the culture, food and incredible hospitality that really won me over.

πŸ‡ΉπŸ‡· Turkey – The history is unforgettable, the food is outstanding, and it's one of the friendliest countries I've ever visited.

πŸ‡¨πŸ‡ Switzerland – Every corner feels like a postcard. The scenery is breathtaking, and there's a sense of peace that's hard to describe.

🌍 Africa – I expected amazing wildlife, but it was the people, landscapes and sheer scale of the experience that stayed with me.

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ USA – Whether it's New York, the national parks or the atmosphere at a major sporting event, nowhere does things quite as big and bold.

These aren't necessarily my "top five" destinations.

They're the five that left the biggest impression on me.

I'm curious...

If you've travelled a bit, which destination exceeded your expectations the most?

Most people have a picture in their head of what Antarctica is like.

After helping many travelers plan their Antarctic journeys, here are 5 things that often surprise people:

❄️ It isn't always as cold as people think

🐧 The wildlife is far more abundant than most expect

🚒 You don't need expedition cruising experience

Antarctica is one of those rare destinations that genuinely exceeds expectations.

One of the most common questions I get from people looking at Antarctica is:

"Which operator should I choose?"

The truth is there isn't one perfect answer.

It depends on the type of experience you're looking for.

πŸ‹ Quark Expeditions
For travelers wanting a true expedition experience, with a strong focus on exploration, wildlife encounters and getting off the ship as much as possible.

🚁 Scenic Eclipse
For those wanting Antarctica with a luxury twist. Think spacious suites, exceptional dining, butler service and one of the most luxurious ways to experience the White Continent.

🐧 Aurora Expeditions
A fantastic balance between expedition and comfort, with smaller ships, excellent guides and immersive wildlife experiences.

The best Antarctica trip isn't necessarily the most expensive one.

It's the one that matches your travel style.

If Antarctica has been sitting on your bucket list for a while, feel free to send me a message. I'm always happy to explain the differences and help point you in the right direction.

🧊 ANTARCTICA IS STARTING TO FILL FOR 2027... AND 2028 HAS JUST BEEN RELEASED 🐧

There are plenty of amazing destinations in the world.

Then there's Antarctica.

Towering icebergs, thousands of penguins, whales feeding alongside your ship, and landscapes so surreal they almost don't look real.

It's one of those rare places that genuinely exceeds expectations.

I've been working on several Antarctica quotes recently and I'm already seeing many of the most popular 2027 departures starting to fill, while 2028 voyages are now being released.

Whether you're looking for a true expedition experience or a luxury journey to the White Continent, there are some incredible options available with:

🚒 Quark Expeditions
🚒 Scenic Eclipse
🚒 Aurora Expeditions

If Antarctica has been sitting on your bucket list for a while, now is a great time to start exploring what's available.

πŸ“© Send me a message and I'd be happy to share some itineraries, pricing and advice on which operator might suit you best.
