ne of our many cafes, hotels or clubs before taking in our some of our fantastic artworks including Farm Art inspired by the Spirit of the Land Festival, the Shadows of Brookong Heritage Trail, hundreds of etched paving or the wonderful Doris Golder Wool Art Gallery housed in Green’s Gunyah Museum. The wide, park like main street of The Rock township, lined by a glossy avenue of Kurragong trees planted to honour each soldier in the district who served his country during WWI, is framed by the magnificent Rock Hill, towering in the background. The Rock Hill Nature Reserve has extensive walks, fantastic fauna and flora, plus great visitor facilities including electric barbecues, sun sheltered picnic tables, fresh water and toilets. Yerong Creek and Pleasant Hills are also wonderful villages to visit in the Shire. Meander along the historic streets of Yerong Creek, discover hidden treasures such as Noske’s Chinese Crossing and take a stroll around the unique architecture of Pleasant Hills, which very much reflects the German Heritage – even the street signs are in two languages! Both these areas offer fantastic cycling!!! There are a number of highly regarded annual events taking place in Lockhart Shire including our Picnic Races, Agricultural Shows, Camp Drafts and Food Festivals. Our largest event, the Spirit of the Land Festival, which is held on the second weekend in October and evolved in response to the worst drought in the Shire experience on record, now garners a $10,000 Farm Art Scupture Prize and draws thousands of visitors from Australia and the far reaches of the world.

🪶 Emus in the spotlight tonight! 🌾📺

You may have seen a few posts floating around already after the dates got a little mixed up… but we’re now very pleased to officially announce that Lockhart Shire’s own Marrocka Emu Farm will feature in tonight’s episode of Rick Stein’s Australia!

In Episode 5, Rick journeys through Visit Riverina NSW, exploring the region’s thriving agritourism scene, where local producers, paddock-to-plate experiences, and wide-open landscapes help shape the flavours of the season. 🌱🍽️

Along the way, Rick visits Marrocka Emu Farm to learn more about these unique feathered locals, before cooking a simple omelette using emu eggs against the stunning backdrop of The Rock Nature Reserve – Kengal Aboriginal Place! 🍳✨

The episode also shines a light on the wider Riverina region, with and the Gundagai Visitor Information Centre featured along the way, showcasing even more of what regional NSW has to offer.

Remember when weekends meant piling into the car and heading to Galore Hill? 🌿

The dusty tracks. The race to the top. Bushwalks to Morgan's Cave. Picnic rugs spread under the gums while the kids disappeared for hours and came back tired, happy, and begging for "just five more minutes."

That place you grew up with? It's still here.

The slide might be gone, but the views from the Summit are as breathtaking as ever. The Saddle is still perfect for a family adventure. The fresh air hasn't gone anywhere.

A new generation deserves those same memories, and they don't have to go far to make them.

This ANZAC Day, the Lockhart Shire comes together to honour and remember those who served.

Communities across the Shire will gather at local dawn services and commemorations, reflecting on sacrifice, service, and the legacy of our veterans. From Lockhart to The Rock and surrounding villages, these services offer a time for quiet reflection and shared respect.

We invite locals and visitors alike to attend a service near them and take a moment to pause and remember.

🌿Have you stopped in at the Tootool Rest Stop?

It’s a quiet little spot in Lockhart Shire that’s easy to miss, but worth a pause if you’re passing through.

There’s a small walk-through garden here, cared for by local volunteers, making it a nice place to stretch your legs and enjoy a bit of fresh country air.

✈️ The area also carries a piece of history, nearby is the site where a WWII aircraft came down. It’s a subtle reminder of the past, sitting quietly alongside an otherwise peaceful roadside stop.

🚗 You’ll also find a public toilet on site, making it a convenient break for travellers. And while you’re there, take a look at the Tootool Telephone Exchange Mural, which adds a bit of local character and story to the stop.
