This afternoon we had a lovely visit from renowned Australian journalist Denise Cullen. To Jack’s delight her mode of transport was an R44 and the flight from would have been spectacular especially after the recent rain. It was very humbling to host Denise and we hope she enjoyed her experience.

2025 kicked off with a visit from a lovely couple who have family history here at Darr River Downs.
Chris’s father was an overseer here in the 1950’s and Chris’s mother cooked for the shearers, elevating them from basic scones to her signature Yorkshire puddings with gravy.
We were able to bring out the ledgers documenting the Fowles’ working life here as well as a special entry where they returned from Longreach with Chris’s baby sister.
A big thankyou to Chris and Fiona for sharing stories of this heritage with us and reinforcing the importance of preserving and making these legacies accessible.

Wishing everyone a wonderful 2025!

We are currently feeding supplement to our cattle in the form of loose lick. We encourage our children to be as hands on as possible so they understand the different facets of owning and running a property as well as instilling a solid work ethic in them. Luckily for us they are willing volunteers!

When first established, Darr River Downs was one of the most prominent properties in the district and covered nearly 800,000 acres and ran over 135,000 merino sheep. Today it covers 55,000 acres and we run 2000 merinos and 2000 head of cattle (seasons permitting). We shore our rams today ready to be put on lupins in preparation for joining.

Over the past 40 years, the Tindall family have curated a collection of historical items significant to both the property and the pastoral industry. Our museums, housed in the original stone buildings, include a shearing room, harness and blacksmith room, household items, tools and equipment and an antique fi****ms collection.
