Finale Part 3!!!! Mixed Reef!!! 35knots confirmed at Creal Reef Wx Station!! Starlink is a gamechanger, enables us to keep a real close eye on the weather, too close soemtimes but confirmed 35 knots!!! She was blowing all week we were out there!!! So not much we could do but hide and fish along the reef edges. It produced some good mixed reef fish, with quality trout and redthroat coming onboard, some mixed species including a nice Barramundi cod which was released, even some more Spanish which as released, and the usually sharky Mackerel, Barracuda, and lost a nice GT trolling as well. Kalira is an amazing boat and handled the conditions amazingly and in awesome comfort!!! Those who have been on her will know, watching netflix movies and State of Origin, life was still very good!!! Plus fresh Panko crumbed reef fish is unbeatable!!!! A great trip had by all, Cheers Greg

Windy Reef Trip, Part 2!! GT's
Did someone say Windy, well we knew it was going to be blowy, but 30 knots, Confirmed gusting to 35knots at the Creal reef weather station was not ideal!!! everyday as well for the foreseeable future. Kalira is awesome and handled it very well, We went out wide and we've got some good anchorages for these trying conditions. Neap tides as well so wasn't too bad considering. It was too windy unfortunately to fish our wider deep Red and Nannygai spots, so were basically just fishing reef edges and where we could comfortably. We had already bagged out on Spanish, when at one spot the GT's and Tawny's showed up for a free feed. A good school of at least 20 GT's and were ready to play, we hooked a couple on stickbaits initially, and then used our bait frames to berley them up and keep them interested. We hooked and lost alot, unfortunately a bit undergunned, and even a monster Groper appeared for a while and had a feed as well, Always awesome to see. Max landed a couple of small ones, and Lachlan a reef trip Virgin, hooked a monster GT which gave him one hell of a fight and had him ready to give up!!! top fish and won't forget that big black GT in a hurry!!! Awesome stuff and these special moments make a trip to the reef well worth it!!! All GT's were released for another day!!!
Plenty of reef fish along the way, Redthroats and coral trout, with some Cattledog cod and a juvenile Maori Wrasse to Letiticia, Great to see. Things were pretty good!!!!
Cheers Greg

Gunton Family trip, Part 1, and Spanish are about!!! It was an early start trip to beat the blow to the reef, Lachlan flew in at 10pm and straight from the airport to the Marina and as soon as he stepped onboard, last lines were let go and we were off, first step was to get to Scawfell Island!!!! Up early and off again across the channel as the winds were picking up to a 20-25kt SEaster!!! Our plan worked and we made it out wide just as it was starting to get quite fresh. Leaving late, and early enabled us to troll one our favourite Spanish spots and they didn't disappoint!!!! too good in fact, Two passes, some double hookups, missed fished and good fun later, we had bagged out on some quality Mackerel. Which was good, but not good, meant we couldn't really target mackerel for the rest of our 6 day trip. One was about 20 kilo's and the rest a solid 10kilo's!!! Are Spanish Endangered? Well we're catching plenty and if this is anything to go by they're really bouncing back fast and there will be lots of big mackerel soon. The problem is you don't want the big ones, Ciguartera poisoning increases and we've had a case in a weighed 12 kilo fish north of Bowen once and was confirmed by samples. We let the big Mackerel go, so be careful.
great start to a Windy trip, the forecast was not good with 20 to 30 knots forecast for the week!!!
Now, the weather's awesome for the next week, hope you get out, and the Mackay Game fishing Club has there Spanish Mackerel shootout on this weekend, All the best, Cheers Greg Reefari

Launched!!!!! All that hard work was well worth it, Good to be back in the water, and all went relatively smoothly. It's well worth considering docking your boat at Mackay Marina, Great people, Thanks Sally and Alex, just book in early too make sure you get your preferred dates, and also all the service businesses based there, top people and all make it just happen, Which is Awesome, Stressful and costly enough docking a big boat!! You need all the help you can get. So a big thanks to Ashley from Mackay Marine services, Jack from Finesse Marine, and Wayne from Decked out. We've known and used these guys for years now and highly recommend. Also a big thanks to Graham(Skipper) who helps bring all the Kaos together and make it all work, Also all the volunteers who came and gave a hand!!! Hope to be out fishing real soon!!! She's ready and keen.
How good to have a nice clean hull again, you can feel the difference. First thing was go to for a run and give her a blast, she got up and cruised a nice 20 knots, and once warmed up wound her out to 26, 26.5 knots, but the fuel flow was very heavy at those speeds and not recommended!!!! We'll be back to eco cruising at 8, 9 knots for our long range adventure trips!!!
Thankfully all done for another year!!! time to go boating fingers crossed and some good weather now please!!!
Limited extended charters 3 to 5 days, for up to 5 people,

Top job Polishing by Ryder, Done well.

Docking continues, but we're getting there!!!
Freezers back in, after getting most of the new underwater lights in, 3 out of 4 isn't too bad?? Well I stuffed up and we put in the hardest one first, which was not a good idea, squeezed into the far stbd corner of the Lazarette, where no human should go? Managed to disconnect a light in a S__t spot, and couldn't save it, A long story shor, $600 F__K up!!! NOT GOOD!!! Lesson learnt on how to install Aqualuma LED lights the hard way. Oh well, we fitted the other 3 we could behind the Deck freezer, Another one ordered which we can install later thankfully. Good news, They work, MEGA Bright!!!, Bright as the sun, you can't look at 'EM, there that bright, but a camera doesn't do them justice!!! I'm Looking forward to seeing them in action and all the pain, Bruises, swearing and suffering will be worth it in the long run, sitting at anchor at the reef enjoying the lovely blue lights with a beer in Hand!!!! Big thanks to Graham and Craig for helping hands!!!
You need that forklift to lift that Freezer, OMG that is heavy and awkward!!!
Ryder gave us a hand for some polishing, A new front hatch installed by Jack from Finesse Marine, Wayne from Decked Out doing the propspeed, Top job guys and great work, highly recommend these guys from Mackay Marina Hardstand. It's a big job and you need all the help you can, eases the Stress. At least it's only once a year.
Most jobs are done now, just finishing off little things, bit more polishing and cleaning up!!! Cheers Greg Reefari

Antifouling Done!!! 2 coats Just!!! Whoever said many hands make light work knew what they were talking about, so if you own a big boat, Get everyone you can to give a hand, it all helps!!! SMASHED IT!!!! Roped in the kids and there mates even, and they had a good time!!! plenty of helpers so got a few other jobs done as well in quick time. Gary did some deep bilge diving and replaced alot of suss hose clamps?, so they've been replaced, rewiring for new Aqualuma underwater lights, More powerpoints, and remarked the anchor cable!!! Broken the back of it thankfully and just a few more jobs to go!!! Things are looking good, just keep the rain away for the new front hatch next??
Also great to see our old boat MV Motorvation and Rob, she's was coming out on the hardstand by chance, Great boat the Steber 43 and we had 5 wonderful years with her!!! Good to catch up!!! Rob's doing fishing and charters With Motorvation out of Airlie Beach, so do a google for Motorvation charters and can look after you!!!
Big thanks again to all the helpers, Much appreciated and hope to get out on the water with you soon!!!! Will be well worth it!!!
Cheers Greg

Roger's Charter, All went well considering the Number of Sharks and chinamen, the only complaints?? Still caught some cracker fish and had a great time, some awesome sunsets at the reef and a great variety of fish. Plenty of Spanish Mackerel too!!! Great tides and moon phases? but the reef fishing was a bit slow, cold weather? but there was a dreaded westerly change as well there for a couple of days so the boys did have to fish hard. Chinamen fish were on the chew with big numbers and big chinamen stretching the boys? What is going on, are the fishing regulations with Sharks and chinamen rules upending and changing fish populations??? We know sharks are out of control, we lost almost all our tackle on the boat to sharks and lost alot of good fish, but Chinamen numbers are getting ridiculous, and giant sizes? are you getting the same??????? Of course the sharks don't touch them??? WTF!!!!
Kalira went well with no problems, boys loved her, she's a comfortable home out on the water and the only way to go fishing!! Can't wait for the next trip!! Cheers Greg
