Mandurah Dreaming

Mandurah Dreaming Mandjoogoordap Dreaming offers Aboriginal cultural and eco bus and walking tours in Mandurah and sur We didn't have a fixed place that we called home.

Mandjoogoordap Dreaming offers visitors to the Peel region a journey through 'kaaleepga' 'our homeland'. Traditionally our people lived with extended family in bush shelters called kaalak. Our real home was the vastness of the territory that we lived in and moved around on following the seasonal food sources. It was and still is referred to as our 'kaaleepga' or homeland. Wherever we made our fire

and shelter on Bindjareb Boodja we were in our territory and part of the Noongar nation. In the local dialect of the region's First People, 'Mandjoo' means 'meeting place' and 'goordap' means 'of the heart'. Join us on a tour with Mandjoogoordap Dreaming with many secret and wonderful places, each with its own story to tell. Join your host and take away some lasting memories from this special place.

Thank you for touring with us !!

NAIDOC Week began yesterday, and to celebrate the diversity and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Poeples, we are showcasing a number of Indigenous small businesses who are accomplishing great things in our local community.

George and Lee-Anne Walley from Mandjoogoordup Dreaming are doing fantastic and important work preserving and celebrating the local cultural knowledge of their area. They offer a number of walking tours, as well as cultural services such as Cultural Awareness Training; Culture Through Music; and Didge Sound Therapy.

On Saturday, our Communications and Business Development Assistant Melissa Charlick rallied up three of her friends, and headed out for a River, Estuary & Ocean Tour, led by George and nourished by Lee-Anne through an incredible morning tea of wattleseed and saltbush damper and cake.

We dived into the local knowledge of the water systems, and learnt of the importance that these areas have had in Indigenous peoples' lives for thousands of years. We made rope and bracelets out of river reeds and sticks, and George was so generous with his knowledge and experience of the area.

It was truly an honour being able to gain insight into an area which before was limited to brief detours from the freeway, and we all have a new-found understanding and appreciation of Mandurah/Mandjoogoordup.

Thank you, George and Lee-Anne. We look forward to joining you on another tour soon, and can't recommend the experience highly enough!
