A small pocket of Western Australia, the Southern Forests region is one of incredible variety and abundance, and its status as one of the nation's premier food bowls is growing everyday. The Southern Forests locals have known about it for years; in this gorgeous, pristine part of the world, something magical is going on. Or the extraordinary fertility of the soils. Maybe it's the 365 growing days of the year, or the purity of the rainfall. Or maybe it's a combination of all these things. Truth is, no one is really sure. But what we do know is this. Every time you bite into an apple, or slice an avocado, or you're tempted by a truffle, or any of the wondrous vegetables, meats, fruits and nuts that are grown in the Southern Forests region, you'll be left with no doubt that this array of fresh local produce simply looks, smells and tastes better. THAT'S A GENUINE EXPERIENCE. The Southern Forests Food Council was formed in 2012 to foster the Southern Forests region as one of the nation's key future food bowls and culinary tourism destinations.

Berry season is here, and the Southern Forests is ready to satisfy your berry cravings.

There is something special about berry season. The first sweet strawberry, a handful of juicy blueberries, and the simple pleasure of enjoying fresh fruit picked close to home. 🍓🫐

Did you know that some of our local strawberries and blueberries are grown under protective tunnels? These covered growing environments help growers manage conditions around their crops and protect delicate berries as they develop.

On the International Day of Rural Women, we celebrate the women behind our region’s agriculture and the valuable contribution they make to the Southern Forests.

From growing our food and caring for the land to managing farming businesses and sharing knowledge across generations, women are an important part of the people, passion and experience behind our region’s produce.

As we mark the International Year of the Woman Farmer, it’s an opportunity to recognise the women whose knowledge, hard work and dedication help shape our agricultural industries and the future of farming.

Today, we celebrate the women behind the Southern Forests, their contribution to our region and the future they help grow.

Behind Genuinely Southern Forests are the people who have helped bring our region together and put its incredible produce, growers, and communities on the map.

Over the past 14 years, many passionate locals have generously shared their time, knowledge, and experience through the Southern Forests Food Council, helping build recognition for our region and pride in the people, place, and produce that make it special.

From growers and producers to local businesses and community representatives, their collective efforts have helped strengthen connections, create opportunities, and shape the Genuinely Southern Forests brand we know today.

As we reflect on 14 years, we’re celebrating the people who have been part of the journey and thanking everyone who has helped tell the Southern Forests story.

We’ve been talking honey, now it’s time to meet the bees behind it. 🐝

The first Northcliffe Bee Festival is coming to the Southern Forests, celebrating bees, beekeeping, honey and the important role pollinators play in our region.

It’s a chance to learn more about life in the hive, meet local beekeepers, discover honey and hive products, and celebrate these remarkable little workers.

Bees are an important part of the Southern Forests, helping pollinate crops including avocados, cherries, apples and blueberries, while foraging across a landscape rich in flowering native trees and diverse bushland.

Mikey and Allexa Cernotta are the people behind Pemberton Honey, a family business built around their passion for bees and honey.

From their base in Pemberton, Pemberton Honey produces a range of honey from native flowering trees and plants, alongside beeswax products including lip balms, soaps and candles.

Their journey began with a single hive in 2016 and has grown to around 500 operational hives, bringing with it years of experience and a strong connection to the bees and landscapes at the heart of their business.

There is something special about honey that comes from a place like the Southern Forests.

Across the region, honey bees forage among Jarrah, Marri, Karri and other flowering plants, collecting pollen and nectar.

The flowers available to bees change with the time of year and the season, contributing to the different types and unique flavours of honey produced across the region.

This spring, we are putting Southern Forests honey in the spotlight and sharing more about the local people, places and bees behind it.

Great w**e starts with great growing country, and the 2026 Southern Forests and Valleys W**e Show has once again put our region’s w**emakers in the spotlight. 🍷

Celebrating more than 20 years of w**e from across the Southern Forests & Valleys, the annual W**e Show recognises the quality, character and diversity of w**es being made across the region.

There was plenty to celebrate for our Genuinely Southern Forests members, with local w**emakers recognised across a range of classes.

🍷 Pemberley of Pemberton took out Best Sauvignon Blanc Semillon for its 2026 Sunset Sauvignon Blanc Semillon and Best Other Single White Varietal for its 2025 Prosecco.
🍷 Ampersand Estates was awarded Best Shiraz for its 2024 Syrah.
🍷 Truffle Hill W**es took home Best Sauvignon Blanc for its 2026 Sauvignon Blanc.
🍷 Peos Estate W**es was awarded Best Dry Red Blend for its 2025 Four Kings Cabernet Merlot.

Sometimes, a simple question can make a bigger difference than we realise.

R U OK?

In farming communities, where days can be long, seasons can be unpredictable and there is always another job waiting, it can be easy to keep moving and put yourself last. That is why connection matters.

Across the Southern Forests, the Southern Forests Food Council is working with growers and producers to strengthen not only the resilience of our agricultural industry, but the people who are part of it. Through wellbeing initiatives, networking, young grower programs and opportunities to come together, the focus is on creating a stronger, more connected farming community.

Because looking after agriculture means looking after the people who grow our food.

Today, and every day, take a moment to check in with someone around you. A neighbour. A friend. A fellow grower. Someone you have not heard from for a while.
