It’s hard to beat a proper Queensland country pub 🍻

The kind with a bit of history, a few good stories and a welcome stop after a long day on the road.

You’ll find that old-school country hospitality in Chillagoe, a little outback town west of Mareeba in Tropical North Queensland.

With a handful of local watering holes, it’s a great place to pull up for a cold drink, swap a few travel stories and settle in before heading off to explore the Chillagoe Caves, limestone landscapes and backroads of Mareeba Shire.

Built in 1905, the historic home now forms part of Mareeba’s open-air museum, where you can wander through heritage buildings, fascinating exhibits and thousands of objects that tell the stories of the people, industries and communities that shaped the region.

If you’re looking for things to do in Mareeba, allow some time to explore the museum and learn a little more about the history behind the place you’re visiting.
