The Margaret River Region is an enticing mosaic of pristine natural wonders, premium wineries, relaxed microbreweries, world-class restaurants, spectacular beaches, towering forests, inspirational artisans, warm and friendly locals, and a laid-back persona all of its own. From the tranquil waters of Geographe Bay in the north, down the ancient cave-carved Leeuwin-Naturaliste Ridge, through picture

sque vineyards and karri forest of the heartland, to the desolate beauty of Cape Leeuwin in the south, this is a place of astounding natural contrasts. You’ll need at least a few days to explore the region; follow our page to understand why! The Margaret River Busselton Tourism Association honours the traditional owners of this land, the Wadandi (Saltwater) people, and their elders past, present and emerging. We acknowledge the Wadandi people’s 60,000-year custodianship of this special place, and we thank them for generously sharing with us their immensely deep cultural knowledge and connection to the land. Now that’s our kind of treasure! 🌈

This humpback breaching off Augusta really captures the magic of the whale watching season so far.

[Image ID: A humpback whale is captured mid-air as it breaches powerfully from the ocean near Augusta, Western Australia. Water sprays around the whale as it rises above the deep blue sea, with a soft rainbow arching in the background against a clear sky. One of the Margaret River Region’s best-kept winter secrets? Its night sky ✨🌌

On clear, moonless nights, stars sparkle like sugar on velvet, with the Milky Way stretching across the horizon.

Rain is just nature’s way of pointing you towards your next adventure: the cave ✨

With over 100 caves beneath your feet (it wasn’t called Caves Road for nothing), four stunning caves are protected and cared for by the not-for-profit Capes Foundation - and open for you to explore.

Each cave offers a unique experience: some are self-guided, some are better for young kids, some have fewer steps, one features a lake, and one is the largest show cave in WA - and all offer great shelter from the weather.

Choose your favourite - or try them all:

👉 Lake Cave, Forest Grove
👉 Mammoth Cave, Forest Grove
👉 Jewel Cave, Deepdene
👉 Ngilgi Cave, Yallingup

Plus, did you know cave temperatures tend to be stable and pretty consistent year-round? 😯

Thanks to how heat travels through rock, Ngilgi Cave stays steady at around 20°C, while Jewel Cave hovers near 17°C. Lake Cave is a bit cooler, usually between 14°C and 16°C. Mammoth Cave has a wider range - about 15°C in summer, and it can drop to as low as 6°C in winter.
