Still 8 more days of winter left but the wildflower season has already started! Don't miss Spring down south!

Wildflower season has officially kicked off in the Margaret River Region, and nature’s putting on a spectacular show!

One of the first to stand out is the fiery Templetonia, aka Cockies Tongue - a bold red beauty lining the coast.

Not entirely sure what a cockatoo’s tongue looks like? Google it, and you'll see why it got the name. (Perfect dinner party fact to make your friends worry about your interests.)

From the striking Cockies Tongue to delicate orchids hiding in the understory, this is just the beginning - and there's plenty more to bloom! 🌺

Winter is a great time to be down south. Lots of rain = full rivers

Quinninup Falls is flowing thanks to the winter rains! 🌧️

Thinking of checking it out? It’s a beautiful and culturally significant spot, so here’s how you can help look after it:

✅ Stick to the marked trails (binoculars = bonus)
✅ Don’t move or take any rocks, plants, or anything else - however big or small
✅ Take your rubbish with you (hiking snacks are elite, but the wrapping doesn't belong in nature!)

If you decide to give it a miss, there are plenty of more wild winter scenes to soak up around the region, like:

🌊 Canal Rocks, Yallingup
🌊 Sugarloaf Rock, Cape Naturaliste
🌊 Surfers Point, Prevelly
🌊 Redgate Beach, Redgate
🌊 Cape Leeuwin, Augusta

Wherever you go, please care for Country and leave only footprints behind. 👣

Don't get caught out! New lower speed limits are now being rolled out

🚗 Reduced speed limits as Safer Speeds Trial begins 🚗

New speed limits are being rolled out across the Shire of Augusta Margaret River as part of the three-year Safer Speeds Trial – a partnership between the Shire and RAC WA, with support from Main Roads Western Australia.

Around 550 local roads will have their speed limits reduced to improve safety, prevent crashes and protect our growing community.

Installation of new speed limit signs commenced this week in Gracetown and will continue over the next few months throughout the shire.

Drivers – please check for updated speed signs and take extra care around workers installing them.

Comprehensive reviews will take place after 12 months and again after three years, using community feedback and road safety data.
