7/9/26 An extraordinary moment captured on the Warburton River, close to the inlet to Kati Thanda–Lake Eyre.

The pelicans (adults and chicks) appear to be cooperative feeding along with Terns, Plovers and Stilts , forming a line across the river and working together to herd fish towards the bank or into a more concentrated area. By moving as a group, they reduce the fish’s escape routes before scooping them up with their large bills and pouches.

The greatest concentration of birds may indicate where the fish have been driven together, or where the birds have discovered a particularly rich concentration of food.

4/9/26 The Simpson Desert is undergoing an extraordinary transformation.

After months of flooding from the Georgina River and Eyre Creek, the floodwaters have now largely drained away and continued downstream into Kati Thanda–Lake Eyre, leaving an incredible flush of green along the eastern edge of Munga-Thirri, the Simpson Desert.

Between the great parallel sand dunes, the normally dry interdune swales are now covered in fresh green growth, tracing where the floodwaters have been. From the air, the contrast between the long desert dunes and the green country between them is remarkable.

Welcome Back, Tekin🫡😎 A Familiar Face Returns to Arid Air ✈️

When Tekin left Arid Air, after more than two years as one of our senior pilots, we wished him well as he headed to Africa to begin a new adventure flying in conservation parks.

At the time, we finished his farewell with the words, “You’ll always have a seat waiting for you here at Arid Air.”

Well, that seat is his once again.

We’re absolutely delighted to welcome Tekin back to Marree and back to the Arid Air team.

During his previous time with us, Tekin flew thousands of passengers across Kati Thanda–Lake Eyre and the incredible landscapes of the Outback. His knowledge of the country, calm professionalism and friendly commentary made him a favourite with passengers and a valued member of our team.

After an incredible chapter flying amongst the wildlife and landscapes of Africa, Tekin has returned to the Outback skies he knows so well.

It’s not often you get the opportunity to welcome someone back after saying goodbye.

Arid Air mascot Bella🐾 was also very excited to see her old mate again.

Join us in Welcoming Tekin home. It’s great to have Tek back in the pilot’s seat at Arid Air. ✈️

The Belt of Venus over Marree SA tonight, beneath a 99% full Moon looking in the direction of the start of The Birdsville Track out of Marree.

The pink band is the Belt of Venus, created by the last rays of sunlight after sunset, while the blue-grey band below is Earth’s shadow rising across the horizon.

Another beautiful evening in the outback, constantly putting on a show.

20/8/26 Check out these thunderstorms out in the Simpson Desert tonight on Lightning Tracker App. These are massive lightning bolts hitting the parallel Dunes as the storms moves over.
