Donkeys, Grenache and golf. Not your average spring line-up.

This spring, McLaren Vale and Fleurieu Coast is serving up two very different reasons to get out and explore.

Grenache & Gourmet, The Festival for Curious Palates, returns from 18 September–5 October, with 18 days of tastings, dining experiences, masterclasses and one-off collaborations across McLaren Vale.

And yes, there really are donkeys. Walking with Donkeys at Journey Home Wines is just one of the more unexpected ways to experience Grenache this spring.

Then Players Series South Australia returns to Willunga Golf Course from 22–25 October, bringing male and female professionals, elite amateurs, juniors and All Abilities competitors to the fairways. Even better? Spectator entry is free.

So, what’s your pick, donkeys, Grenache or golf?

Route 31 Coastal Drive has some of the best beaches along the 31 km of coastline and are ready to explore!

If your getting ready for your first dip of the season? Here are six of our favourites.

☀️ Port Noarlunga Reef and Jetty - The combo of beach, reef, jetty and a cool food and shopping scene makes Port Noarlunga one of our favourites.

☀️ Just around the corner from Port Noarlunga, Christies has a vibe all of its own.

Off the sand, you’ll find small bars, cafes, restaurants and some great murals along the mainstreet. It’s worth a wander,

Add in the Witton Bluff Base Trail and you’ve got yourself a very nice weekend.

☀️ Chasing waves? This is your stretch of coast!

☀️ One of our favourite places to spend a whole day! Pack the portable BBQ, picnic rug and cricket set and you’re set from morning to last light.

Sellicks is a drive-on beach so no need to carry everything down to the sand.

☀️ Australia’s original ‘clothing optional’ beach. Down the southern end you can dip however you dare, just make sure you’re past the sign.

☀️ Arguably the most photographed beach in South Australia, and it holds a special place in our hearts. Clear water, white sand and limestone cliffs make this one unforgettable

A good weekend here can be as simple as grabbing a coffee, checking the surf spots, paddling out and staying until the sun sets and the cliffs glow.

Only 40 minutes from Adelaide, the Mid Coast makes it pretty easy to round up your mates and make a day or a weekend of it.

Surf in the morning, then take your pick, coffee on the coast or head to McLaren Vale for cellar doors, breweries, distilleries, and a long lunch,

Stay the night then do it all again.
