Hey guys!
After a stretched stay in Airlie Beach (it was 13 days in a whole) and meeting some great people there, Annika and Fabian, having some really fun nights and a free hairdressing for Jan and Fabian, we continued our road trip direction north!
Ok, this is going to be a long post :)
Bowen and Townsville were our first stops. There we visited a few local growers markets and enjoyed the stunning view from castle hill lookout in Townsville and a stroll down the strand! very nice outback meets the tropical north kind of town!
Next destination was the Wallaman falls, which was really amazing! It's the largest single drop waterfall of Australia and truly spectacular. Of course we did not hesitate and did the exhausting and steep hike down to the foot of the Falls. it was very worth it, although Steph needed an hour rest afterwards, haha :). Besides on the drive to the falls we got to see one of the rare Cassowarie Birds and man, they are huge!
Next stop: Mission Beach!
Just think of an advertisement of a travel agency which a picture of a beach and palm trees and blue ocean and blue sky and a tall, slim and good looking blonde in a hammock between to palm trees, and there you go - MISSION BEACH! It is truly a paradise like place and usually full of Adrenaline as it is a famous destination to do a skydive or go for kayaking. We've spent our day just relaxing at the beach and reading books. It was nice though :)
From there we made our way into the Atherton Tablelands, which was amazing, too! It feels a little bit like the European Alpes, just more tropical and Australian :) We did the waterfall circuit, passing through great Waterfalls and went for a dip into the cold water of Millaa Millaa Falls. The afternoon we've spent in a bookstore in Yungaburra, a nice and cozy village with lots of small little cafes and restaurants and pubs. There Steph managed to get 10 Avocados for only 2 Dollars! This is heaven:)
Before finally reaching Cairns, we spent a day at Mossman Gorge in the Daintree rainforest. Beautiful place of Aboriginal significance. There we let ourselves flow down the Gorge with its stream and took a bath in the refreshing water. The rainforest is a truly magic place and bears a lot of wonderful waterfalls, gorges, strange animal noises and impressive plants. After that we went to Port Douglas, just a little north of Cairns and watched the sun sinking over the calm waters. Port Douglas is a more high-society tourist destination, lots of expensive resorts and restaurants, but a really realxed and pretty place.
Now that we are in cairns our trip together seems to be coming to its end. But still there is lots in and around Cairns to check out and we're enjoying our days at the beautiful Lagoon in Cairns!
Anyways, this were awesome nearly three months that we've spent together traveling up the east coast and experiencing this amazing country together!
Pictures will follow,
cheers and have a good one mates (haha)
