Composites Constructions and its owner/operator, Stephen Campbell, have had 30 years of hi-tech boat building experience using the latest methods at their disposal. In March 2008 Composites Constructions relocated to its current premise in Braeside, Melbourne. This facility boasts a massive floor area; separate working areas for specialized work and a massive oven/spray booth, which enables them t
o build state of the art boats. A brand new climate controlled components room was also built, which allows them to produce the most complex of composite components. Before forming his own business in 2000, Stephen was involved in the construction of many famous racing boats, including Wild Thing, Illusion (1988 Sydney to Hobart winner), Ultimate Challenge, Morning Mist and Raw Nerve (Ocean Racing Catamaran). In 1994 Stephen joined Nippon Challenge, an America’s Cup team as a shore crew member, which involved building and maintaining the hi-tech racing vessels. Following that campaign, Stephen was invited to join America One for the 2000 America’s Cup challenge, taking on the same role as for Nippon, but his responsibilities were extended to include supervising, water testing and training. At the end of the 2000 America’s Cup challenge, Stephen moved back home to begin his own successful business. Composites Constructions has a small team of dedicated tradesmen, whose expertise includes specialized areas , custom composite components , pattern making and mould making .
