Did you know that the Taj Mahal isn’t just one of the world’s most recognisable landmarks – it’s a love story carved in marble?

It was built in 1631 by Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife, Mumtaz Mahal. Before her passing, Mumtaz had her husband make four promises: first, that he build the Taj Mahal; second, that he should marry again; third, that he always be kind to their children; and fourth, that he visit the tomb every year on the anniversary of her death.

The emperor kept three of these four promises, unable to visit her tomb each anniversary of her passing due to ill health and being under house arrest by his very own son and successor to the throne, Aurangzeb.

Nearly 400 years on, the marble still glows.
The story still hums beneath the surface.
And standing here, wandering its courtyards together, you can feel it.

Because some things never change:
The promises we make matter.
The way we love – ourselves included – matters.

A few days before these photos, most of these women didn’t know each other. Some came solo whilst others came with mums, daughters and friends.

Now they’re exploring Amber Fort in Jaipur together – swapping stories, sharing laughs, ticking off something they’ve dreamed of for years.

This is what travel is meant to feel like.

If the North is energy, the South is rhythm.

On our recent South Tour, we saw India at a different tempo – slower, softer, and deeply soulful. We drifted through backwaters, cycled past temple towns, and cooked Chettinad feasts under open skies. Mornings started with yoga or filter coffee. Afternoons often ended with a swim, a spice walk, or a quiet moment in a forest cabin.

Here, heritage wasn’t on display – it was simply part of the day. In the pillars of our hotel, in the flavour of our dosa, in the jasmine-scented air.

This tour was for those craving connection. To nature, to stillness, and to the women travelling beside them.

What a gorgeous group I had in South India this October! Our journey took us from the Bay of Bengal to the Arabian sea, travelling through the diverse cities, villages and landscapes of Tamil Nadu and Kerala.
