Don’t skip Victoria’s Great Ocean Road - especially if you’re coming through Melbourne.
It’s one of those trips that feels different the further you get into it. Less polished, more real. You start to notice the small things. Weathered beach shacks, quiet cafés, people who’ve clearly chosen this life on purpose.
Around Bells Beach, there’s this strong surf culture that doesn’t try to impress you. It just… exists. Early mornings, cold water, locals who’ve been coming back to the same stretch of coast for years.
It’s nothing like Bondi Beach, and that’s kind of the point. It’s quieter, a bit rougher around the edges, and you feel more part of it just by being there.
If you can stretch it into an overnight (or a couple), do it.
It’s the kind of place that grows on you - once you slow down to match the pace.
