The redevelopment of 500 Bourke Street preserves an iconic part of Melbourne's CBD. Rather than demolishing and rebuilding, the 47,000sqm tower has been carefully refurbished, restoring its existing structure and redesigning its interior with a strong emphasis on visual, social, and environmental connection.
Buckford Illumination Group supplied luminaires across the ground floor lobby and the upper-level fitout, supporting the transformation of the tower into a sustainable workplace of the future. ERCO's efficient and economical Iku downlight in a custom Kelvin Lighting can is discretely integrated throughout the timber ceiling, delivering quality illumination while ensuring the waffle detailing remains a defining feature.
At the heart of the lobby, a travertine-clad core behind the reception desk is softly illuminated by Coolon's Max Mini. This compact linear floodlight grazes the natural stone, enhancing its texture and emphasising the dramatic architecture, ensuring the wall continues to serve as the focal point of the space.
Buckford is proud to have been involved in this project's refurbishment, providing an efficient, human-centric lighting solution that contributed to the building’s 6-Star Green Star Design rating and Platinum WELL certification. The restoration of the existing structure, led by a strong sustainability focus, sets a new benchmark for adaptive reuse in Melbourne’s CBD.
