Last minute trip to Mongolia. Hell yes! Mongolia has been a destination I have always wanted to visit. The culture, the people and the scenery have always inspired me. Now I get to travel there with the amazing Crooked Compass. Not only will I see the sights and engage with the people, but will also be attending the Altai Golden Eagle Festival. Pinching myself. So excited!

Day 32 Stone Town Zanzibar Tanzania
My last day in Africa. What do I do? Roam the alleyways of Stone Town. Just love it. I also decide to visit the East Africa Slave Trade Exhibition. It features a series of detailed informative panels to commemorate the abolition of slavery and preserve the legacy of the individuals who were brought there and sold. Very sad times. In 1879 an Anglican cathedral was constructed at the site. The cathedral was seen as a symbol of emancipation from a tyranny that affected all the people of the region. The day ended with another gorgeous sunset. Spectacular! Thanks to everyone for taking this journey with me. I have loved it ###

Day 31 Stone Town Zanzibar Tanzania
Today I take a day trip to Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park. It is Zanzibar's only national park and is known for its diverse ecosystems, including mangrove forests and wetlands. It is famous for the Zanzibar red colobus monkey, a species found nowhere else in the world. Yes more animals to see! And more fantastic life on the road trip x

Day 30 Stone Town Zanzibar Tanzania
Today I move to Stone Town located on a promontory jutting out from the western side of Unguja island into the Indian Ocean. The Stone Town of Zanzibar is an outstanding example of a Swahili trading town. This type of town developed on the coast of East Africa, further expanded under Arab, Indian, and European influences, but retained its indigenous elements. It is such a vibrant mix of culture. On route I stop at a spice garden for a tour and an insight into what they grow and uses. I arrive at my accommodation, Kholle House, built in 1860 and located in the heart of Stone Town - a magnificent showcase for Princess Kholle's most treasured artifacts and collectables, and a place to entertain friends and visiting dignitaries. Just stunning. I do a walking tour of the city and it is just so full of life. Love it x

Days 25-27 Matemwe Zanzibar Tanzania
After nearly 4 weeks on safari it was time for some down time. I found a gorgeous fishing village in Zanzibar to chill. It was away from the hustle and bustle from the main tourist areas. Just watching life is just so precious when you travel. Every day the fishermen would bring in their haul and there would be an auction for the fish. The kids would play on the beach. The ladies would collect shells and other seafood. The boys would play soccer on the beach. At times there would be 3-4 matches going on in front of my beachfront bungalow. I took a boat trip out to do some snorkelling which was fun. Lots of fish however very little coral. It was great viewing life on the shore from the boat x

Day 24 Ngorongoro-Arusha Tanzania
We leave behind Ngorongoro this morning heading back to Arusha. On the way we stop at a Masai village to learn about the G Adventures supported Clean Cookstoves Project. To say amazing is beyond words. We enter a boma (traditional home) with an old stove bellowing out lots of smoke into this tiny home. We could hardly breathe. The indoor smoke causes cancer, emphysema, pneumonia, blindness and burns. Then we visit a home where a clean cookstove has been installed. Such a wonderful difference. Then we visit another home where the local Masai mamas are installing a clean stove. They are the ones that have been trained to do the installation. We head back to Arusha our hearts full from another wonderful experience. So proud to travel with G Adventures and know I am contributing to such great projects. And of course lots of photo opportunities on the journey back x

Day 23 Ngorongoro Conservation Area Tanzania
We depart Serengeti early and travel across the vast savannah to Ngorongoro Crater, spanning 19 kms in diameter. It is the largest non-flooded caldera in the world and is inhabitated by 25,000 animals. We descend into the crater and enjoy viewing the wildlife and birdlife. Spectacular setting. Our accommodation for the night is in a local village, on the edge of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

Day 22 Serengeti National Park Tanzania
We immerse ourselves in the splendour of the Serengeti. We watch the sun rise followed by the balloons and then head out on an all day safari. We see a cheetah up close and with only one other vehicle. Amazing. We see a mini migration of zebras. Thousands of them walking single file to the Masai Mara in Kenya. Again amazing! We see a lion stalking it's prey and a leopard in a tree from a distance. We have a stop late in the day at the Serengeti Wildlife Research Centre. The lecture was about cheetahs and how there are so few of them these days, and what they are trying to do to save them. I have a new appreciation for these wonderful creatures x
