Sapphire Coastal Adventures (formerly Merimbula Marina) is owned by Simon and Jessica Millar. We started the business in 2008. Our passion is whale watching and for 7 months of the year this is what we do. May to August during the Northern Migration of the wonderful humpback wha

les we operate whale watching cruises out of Darling Harbour Sydney. And then for the Southern Migration from August to November we run daily cruises from Merimbula and Bermagui on the NSW South Coast. The Southern Migration is our favourite time of the year as so many whales pass close to the shore and the whale watching is sensational! Outside of the whale season we operate 3hr Reef Fishing Charters & 2hr Ocean Wildlife Adventures from Merimbula. These tours are a wonderful way to see the spectacular Sapphire Coast from the water and regularly sight a variety of marine life (Seals, Dolphins, Whales, Seabirds). Beautiful sunny conditions today as we headed out from Eden in search of whales. We found two whales a few miles offshore whom just have been sleeping as were on long downtimes 💤 So we headed further offshore to find a pod of two and a pod of three humpbacks cruising along. We were lucky to see a breach upon approach and a few lovely pectoral fin waves. These whales were cruising steadily northwards and spent lots of time on the surface 🐋🐋🐋💙 We also enjoyed the Albatross and Petrels cruising past 😊

This morning we found dolphins and seals at the break wall as we headed out 🐬🦭 We then found a single young humpback not far offshore 🐋. Lots of Albatross in close today 💙 Several of them were gathered together feeding on a school of bait fish with a seal. An enjoyable morning with a wide variety of wildlife off Eden.

Fantastic calm conditions as we headed out from Eden this morning. As we headed offshore we were greeted by a lovely pod of common dolphins. We then found a pair of inquisitive humpbacks who we had a great close encounter with. We could see lots of pods of whales in the area. So decided to head to a pod of three who were putting on quite a show - Breaching, tail slapping and pec slapping. These three beautiful whales certainly kept our attention as they breached repeatedly for close to an hour. 🚀🚀🚀 Several other whales were seen on our return to Eden. We are certainly enjoying seeing so many whales coming past the Sapphire Coast at the moment. 🐋🙏🐋

This morning the southerly winds picked up as we headed out of Eden in search of whales. We travelled six miles offshore to find numerous pods of whales breaching and tail slapping in the winds. It was hard to know which whales to watch! We followed a pod of three that were surfacing regularly and surprised us with a big breach and some lovely close encounters. On the return to Eden we also sighted a whale putting on a very impressive tail slapping display. Fantastic to see so many whales out wide over the past few days 🐋🐋🐋🐋🐋

Today as we headed offshore from Eden in search of whales we were joined by a beautiful pod of common dolphins.🐬🐬🐬Once we got out wide we sighted a few splash’s and several blows. We decided to follow a pair of humpbacks who were surfacing regularly and were amazed by a random impressive breach 🚀🐋💙 We also enjoyed the many Albatross sighted throughout the cruise.

Our first Competition Pod for 2026 😀
This morning we travelled ten miles offshore off Eden to find an energetic competition pod of at least five humpback whales. Other whales could be seen in the distance and soon this pod became seven and then eight whales! The energy of a competition pod is something awesome to observe. Watching the males jostling and pushing one another around competing for the females attention is something to behold. We witnessed some fantastic breaching, head lunges, pectoral fin slapping and the sound as these whales surfaced was palpable. We also sighted some fantastic tail slapping from another pod of whales not far from the ones we were travelling with.
A most memorable day on the ocean. Thanks to our wonderful team of photographers who captured the action today. It was hard to choose which photos to post but here is sample of the day - enjoy.

This morning we found 2 humpbacks out wide off Twofold Bay. They were steaming ahead, surfacing regularly, keen to get to their breeding grounds in the Coral Sea 😊 We also sighted several albatross soaring above the ocean in the windy conditions.

This morning we found a few seals and dolphins as we headed offshore from Eden. After a long search which included a cruise down to Green Cape we finally found a humpback whale in close off Mowarry. This whale was heading south and we saw several tail throws and some lovely tail slapping.

Fantastic ocean conditions today off Eden 🌞
We headed offshore to find a single whale playing with a seal. Always fun to watch these interactions between species 🐋🦭💙
We were also lucky to see this whale breach and tail slap once.
On our way back in we found another single whale that surprised us with a breach anda few pec slaps 🤩

We are loving these sunny winter days 🌞🙌

Another gorgeous calm sunny day on the ocean 🌞
This morning we headed 9 miles off Eden to find three whales playing with a large pod of common dolphins 🐋🐬💙 We were then joined by another pair of large adult humpback whales.

On our afternoon cruise we found three humpbacks as we were coming out of Twofold Bay. These whales were cruising very peacefully northwards and spending plenty of time on the surface. 🐋🐋🐋

A most enjoyable Sunday on the ocean off Eden 🙏
