Sapphire Coastal Adventures (formerly Merimbula Marina) is owned by Simon and Jessica Millar. We started the business in 2008. Our passion is whale watching and for 7 months of the year this is what we do. May to August during the Northern Migration of the wonderful humpback wha

les we operate whale watching cruises out of Darling Harbour Sydney. And then for the Southern Migration from August to November we run daily cruises from Merimbula and Bermagui on the NSW South Coast. The Southern Migration is our favourite time of the year as so many whales pass close to the shore and the whale watching is sensational! Outside of the whale season we operate 3hr Reef Fishing Charters & 2hr Ocean Wildlife Adventures from Merimbula. These tours are a wonderful way to see the spectacular Sapphire Coast from the water and regularly sight a variety of marine life (Seals, Dolphins, Whales, Seabirds). Saturday morning we headed north to find two beautiful humpback whales. One was a survivor of an entanglement and bore a substantial scar across her back. Thankfully this has now healed but it was a reminder of the challenges that these amazing mammals face on their long migration. We could also see another pair of whales further north and another pair outside of us. It was a most enjoyable morning and always great explore the coastline north of Turringal Head.

The gorgeous calm conditions continue 🌞
We headed out from Merimbula today and went south to find seals, penguins, dolphins and a humpback whale off The Pinnacles. Such a beautiful day to be out on the water. We love winters on the Sapphire Coast 🐋💙

Whales, Dolphins, Seals, Penguins, Albatross - we saw them all in Bermagui today 🐋🐬🦭🐧💙
This morning we travelled up to Bermagui for a private whale watch. Ocean conditions were perfect and after heading out past the six mile we found a pod of at least eight BIG humpbacks cruising along with a large pod of common dolphins 🐬🐋💙 It was awesome to watch these whales and dolphins interacting. We could see other pods of whales further out and so many dolphins. On our way back in we came across several other pods of whales who were all accompanied by dolphins 🐋🐬🤯 We even had a mini mugging by three whales and two bottlenose dolphins 😊

A great day with awesome people in a very special part of the world - Bermi we love you and can’t wait to be back during the southern migration 🐋💙

Today we found a single juvenile humpback off Tura Head. This young whale was cruising along slowly and surfacing regularly. Other whales were also sighted today out wide by our land based whale spotters.
No photographer onboard today so here are a few photos from Bubbles cruises in Sydney where we have seen some amazing action this week 🐋💙

Today was a simply gorgeous day out on the ocean off Merimbula. We headed out wide off the Pinnacles to find a pair of humpback whales. This pair surfaced regularly and were super relaxed. With the glassy conditions we even sighted (and heard) several Little Penguins 🐧 🐋🐋💙

Yesterday morning we travelled south to find a pod of three humpback whales a few miles off The Pinnacles. This trio were surfacing regularly giving us plenty of opportunities to view them.
Unfortunately the weather for the next few days looks very windy and rough so we won’t be back out until the end of the week.

Today we headed NE wide off Bournda Island. We were lucky to see a humpback whale head lunge several times at a distance. Then when we arrived this whale resumed migration mode 🙃 We travelled north up towards Turringal Head and then found another single humpback whale in close off Long Point on our return journey. The seals in the channel were enjoying the sunny conditions and were sunbaking on our way out and on our way back in ☀️🦭

After a windy week it was great to be back out on the water. We travelled out wide off Merimbula to find a humpback whale cruising steadily northwards. We also sighted several albatross, gannets and other seabirds. The local Australian Fur Seals were competing for prime sun baking positions in the channel on our way out and then all sleeping upon our return 🐋🦭💙

Winter on the Sapphire Coast is simply sensational 😊
Today was a gorgeous sunny calm day on the ocean. We found a single whale on both our morning and afternoon cruises. Both whales were steadily heading northwards enjoying the calm conditions. We were out quite wide off Merimbula and sighted lots of beautiful albatross and other seabirds throughout the day 😊
Over the coming weeks we will look forward to sighting more northbound whales as the migration kicks into gear 🐋💙

This morning we headed out wide in search of early season whales and found a single Risso’s dolphin. We don’t often find these illusive deep dwelling dolphins and it was wonderful to see. Unfortunately no whales today but it will only be a matter of days and we should be seeing good numbers coming past on their northern migration. We also sighted lots of seals and a variety of seabirds.

It was such a glorious day on the water today! Sun was shining, seas were flat and no wind 💙💙💙
It was a great day to be out on the water enjoyed the beautiful coastline off Merimbula. We were lucky to find a solitary bottlenose dolphin, several seals and a range of seabirds throughout the cruise. This great weather is forcast to continue for the next few days so wonderful opportunity to get out on the water 😊

Merimbula Marina is a small family owned business. Our passion is whale watching and for 8 months of the year this is what we do. May to August during the Northern Migration of the wonderful humpback whales we operate cruises out of Darling Harbour Sydney. And then for the Southern Migration from September to November we run daily cruises from Merimbula on the NSW South Coast. The Southern Migration from Merimbula is our favourite time of the year as so many whales pass close to the shore and the whale watching is sensational! Outside of the whale season we operate a 2hr Coastal Discovery Cruise with BBQ lunch, December to May. These cruises are a wonderful way to see the spectacular Sapphire Coast from the water and regularly sight Dolphins and a variety of marine life. We also operate fishing charters December to May from Merimbula. During these months have daily 4hr Reef Fishing Charters.
