Honouring a pivotal moment in Australia's history.

A new NSW Blue Plaque has been unveiled at Moree Memorial Hall, to commemorate the 1965 Freedom Ride, led by Dr Charles Perkins. The Freedom Ride Blue Plaque Trail follows the route taken by students from the University of Sydney who challenged racial discrimination and helped spark national conversations about equality and justice.

In Moree, segregation was laid bare as Aboriginal families and Riders stood together and forced Australia to face what was happening. Two brave locals stood up at the Town Hall and overturned the longstanding ban on Aboriginal people entering the Moree Artesian Baths. This was a defining moment along the Ride and in Australia’s history.

We invite visitors and locals alike to pause, reflect and learn more about this significant moment in our shared history.
