Bus safety week!

Monday 17 – Sunday 23 February 2025 is Bus Safety Week!

Buses are large, heavy vehicles. They can’t stop quickly and have large blind spots than other vehicles.

Whether you’re out walking, riding or driving, Be Bus Aware.

I personally (Melissa, director) would love to see our community boost the role of school bus drivers.

Our staff turn over rate is low. This means your student may have the same driver from K to 12. A constant person to be part of every school day.

The driver may know the students birthday, favourite football team, help with homework, and more.

There is talk of ratios in classrooms, well in most cases our drivers can have anywhere from 24-70ish (with 2 to 3 seat belt seats on a 57 seat bus) students onboard the bus at any one time. That is a lot of conversations, distractions and connections, while focusing on driving a heavy vehicle up to 100km per hour on the highway, and in and around towns.

Therefore if you see a driver in uniform, thank them for their work and role they play in our community.

90% of our stops are informal bus stops.

Our company has a policy that a student aged 10 or younger who is getting off the bus without parent/guardian present needs to sign a letter.
Please contact the office to gain a copy of the letter and discuss further.

🌾 In rural and regional areas, school children may be dropped off and picked up at temporary bus stops that don't have any signage or infrastructure - they're often just the end of a driveway or residence 🚏

🚗 When driving on country roads remember to keep a look out for children who may be waiting for their bus or crossing the road to get to their stop 🚸

If your child gets the bus from an informal stop, accompany them if you can and hold their hand when crossing the road. If they're old enough, have a conversation with them about how to cross safely ✅

All set for our annual staff training day tomorrow.

We understand how important our passengers are and the four sessions tomorrow cover everything from road safety, student management, reporting hazards and much more.

A big focus is on encouraging and reminding passengers to wear their seatbelts. Everyone involved in a students life can help us by telling students they must wear their seatbelts while on the bus, just like when they are in a car. Thank you.

School travel passes gives eligible school students free travel between home and school or TAFE on NSW public transport, including trains, buses, ferries and light rail. Depending on where you're travelling, you may receive a free school travel pass, a School Opal card, or both.

It has been so heart warming to see our drivers coming back to the depot this week with cards, hand made gifts, homemade treats, chocolates, other gifts and gift cards.

Thank you to our community for acknowledging the drivers. They are a big part of students days, year after year, and it’s a big responsibility we feel carrying this precious cargo daily. It is therefore fantastic to feel others appreciate our drivers and their profession.
