Moura - Heart of the Dawson Valley - Tourism Page Moura, is a small country town in Central Queensland, it is known as the "Heart of the Dawson Valley". This page has been set up to help promote the town.

“Moura” The Name.

1854 Charles Marshall named his selection on the Dawson River, “Moura”, after a small town in Portugal, where he had served in Wellington’s army in the war against Napoleon. It was an ancient town dating 2000 years from Roman times. Now the centre of a rural area, much of the old town remains overlooked by the old Moorish castle.

1857 Charles Marshall was granted the lease of ‘Moura” Run.

Now open Monday to Friday 8.30am – 12 noon & 1pm – 5pm; Saturdays 9.30am – 12.30pm
Admission is by donation to Moura Historical Society, the volunteer group who worked for many weeks setting up the exhibits.
