When you read this my travel friends and I will be back in the air heading for home and our families. I have my first grandchild that I am so excited to meet.

As I reflect back on the past 21 days traveling through Europe I realise how fortunate we have been to have experienced the most beautiful places, stayed in the most luxurious accommodation, we’ve been served the most delicious meals and received the most outstanding service.

We have travelled and visited locations in 6 countries, Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Slovakia and Czech Republic. I have my favourite places but I must say Austria definitely was number 1 for me.

To be able to experience this with wonderful people is great and also a wonderful insight into how I can advise and help others wanting to do this once in a lifetime holiday themselves. I have learnt so much and can truly recommend attractions and accommodation that will suit all expectations.

Thank you to the three couples who put their trust in me and supported me in my small business, Getaway with Kylie. Travel is a large investment and I take this seriously. I feel I go above and beyond in supporting my clients and their appreciation of my efforts has made the hard work so worth while.

We have had a wonderful time and we return home with memories that will last a lifetime.

Prague is our last stop for three nights before we head home. Our hotel was perfectly located right in the city centre and an easy walk to the main square where many shops, restaurants and the Easter Market was still operating.

The crescendo of our glorious river cruise through Europe was an evening cruise on the Danube River on our very own river ship to take in the stunning lights of Budapest at night.

After a delicious four course meal (which we are definitely going to miss) we headed up to the top deck, rugged up in all the winter clothes and blankets we could find, and in freezing conditions we saw the outstanding sights of Budapest. It was an absolutely wonderful experience with liquors and light canapés handed out and so many photos taken.

The last stop on our river cruise was beautiful Budapest. We had a prime location for our mooring so it was easy to walk to shops, markets and cafés. We did a city walking tour to take in the must see sights including the St Stephen’s Basilica.

I was not aware that Budapest is made up of two cities, Buda and Pest, separated by the Danube River. Gorgeous architecture, flowering trees and so much history.

I was not prepared for how much I would love Vienna in Austria. To be honest Austria as a country has been my favourite....

I was not prepared for how much I would love Vienna in Austria. To be honest Austria as a country has been my favourite. We got to spend two days in Vienna with our boat anchored overnight.

A city walking tour was full of wows a plenty. The architecture is astounding and everything is on such a grand scale.

After our walking tour we returned to our river boat for a bbq on the top deck with Vienna as the most beautiful backdrop. The salads, Vienna sausages, every type of seafood as well as jugs of beer, wine and cocktails were also on offer.

After a Viennese Schnitzel dinner we were taken to the beautiful Liechtenstein palace for an exclusive cocktail party and a performance from a full orchestra and five amazing opera singers who performed music from famous Austrian composers including Mozart.

Continuing our time in Austria we visited the beautiful area of Wachau and a private tour its magnificent abbey. As if built to be closer to the heavens: Melk Abbey is the Wachau’s most magnificent landmark—full of splendour and a true experience to visit.
High above the Danube where our river ship was parked rose a golden, shimmering wonder of Baroque architecture: Melk Abbey. More than just a historic monument, it has been a vibrant centre of culture for almost a thousand years. Since 1089, Benedictine monks have lived here, preserving tradition while embracing new ideas. Jakob Prandtauer’s masterpiece combines a majestic abbey church, one of Europe’s most valuable historic libraries, and magnificent halls into a harmonious ensemble.

Inside, the abbey library fascinates with more than 100,000 precious volumes, elaborately painted ceilings, and a sense of timelessness. The Marble Hall is a prime example of Baroque grandeur, featuring impressive ceiling frescoes and masterful illusionistic painting.

Traveling through the Netherlands, Germany and then Austria has been incredible on a river ship with only 150 people on board, all Aussies with a few Kiwi’s thrown in to keep us on our toes. This is my first international group trip as a host and travel agent and it is amazing.

Everything has gone smoothly (despite a few pre travel flight hiccups due to a war no one needed) and my travel companions have said it’s the best holiday they have ever experienced.

Yesterday was a highlight for me when I got to visit Salzburg in Austria, the home of the Sound of Music, my favourite movie of all time. We were entertained in the Austrian Alps surrounded by melting snow. To hear the music performed live made me cry. I feel so thankful to be able to live my dream life travelling and seeing the most beautiful places in the world. Austria is breathtaking, incredible, beautiful, I can’t find enough adjectives to explain it to you.

If you can’t find me I could be twirling in the Austrian Alps singing 🎶 The hills are alive, with the sound of 🎶

This is a pinch me moment walking the streets of Salzburg where my favourite movie of all time was made. Honestly every place I’ve visited on this trip has blown me away and I can’t wait to share my experiences with you if you are wanting to do the same trip. To experience it first means giving you only the best advice.

The next stop on our river cruise is the world heritage listed Bamberg. What a beautiful city. We enjoyed a walk through the old town and the architecture was just beautiful. All of these cities we have visited are built around beautiful rivers and canals. Bamberg has been another favourite for me.

The weather has been amazing and I had a refreshing German beer in one of the city squares.

Today we also visited Nuremberg for a city walking tour and this afternoon we sail Main-Danube Canal. This holiday is the epitome of comfort and luxury. I have tried not to bombard you with too many posts but my Wurzburg warrants its own post. We did a city walking tour after our visit to the Wurzburg Residence, an 18th Century palace that was the home of the Wurzburg Prince-Bishop. Now I’ve been to some incredible places but this palace was spectacular.

Above the regal staircase was a ceiling fresco by Tiepolo which is believed to be the largest in the world. The story depicted in the fresco features the four main continents in the world. The detail was magnificent.

I also loved the white room which was decorated with chandeliers and hand carved plaster. The mirrored gold room was also breathtaking.

I then walked in the palace gardens which were immaculately kept. I have so many photos but have shared my favourites with you. Such an incredible palace built for one man.

The past three days we have visited some quaint German villages sailing on the Rhine and now the Main River. We visited the Princess Heide von Hohenzollern at Namedy Castle in Andernach for a tour and private cocktail party.

Next we visited Rudesheim where we got to select our preferred tour. I chose a tour to a historic wine cellar for a tasting of Rhine Valley wines.

Today we stopped in Miltenberg which has been my favourite spot so far. Spared from destruction in World War II, Miltenberg is like a time capsule, revealing what old world village life was like in Germany before the war. 🇩🇪
