We were lucky enough to spend the night at most awarded Mount Lofty House

Mount Lofty House was built in 1852 by prominent statesman Arthur Hardy as his summer house. Arthur Hardy is reminiscent of a South Australian Jay Gatsby.

Their beautiful manor soon became the state’s premier address for lavish and infamous parties for Adelaide’s elite of the day. From such lofty beginnings the manor was passed through a number of South Australian families, including a period as commune in the 1970s.

In the disastrous 1983 fires of Ash Wednesday Mount Lofty House was burnt to the ground before rising from the ashes like a phoenix to truly become one of South Australia’s great icons.

I was in a classic room (located in the heritage part of the hotel). Appointed with high ceilings, appointed period furnishings and a comfy four-poster bed . You even get a plate of their signature Mount Lofty House cookies to enjoy on arrival.

Our last Beyonder dinner was in the Coach House, a beautiful heritage building and Ash Wednesday survivor.

A bittersweet moment for me. We met as a group of travel agents, and will now be parting as friends that have a truckload of memories to remember.

Thank you Journey Beyond Journey Beyond Rail Outback Spirit Tours & South Australia Tourism for this opportunity!

And once again thank you all for allowing me to share my journey with you!

Third Stop - Ambleside Distillers

The Beyonder’s participated in a Gin Blending Masterclass where we created our own signature blend which we got to take home with us.

I called mine “Gin and Beyond” - with hints of orange, pear, strawberry, cassia bark, star anise, basil, thyme, rosella & wattleseed. I don’t think my high school chemistry was an advantage when creating this magnificent concoction 😜

Second Stop - Jurlique Farm

Platinum guest’s travelling on any of the Journey Beyond Rail trains, are spoilt with these Premium Jurlique toiletries.

Since 1985, they have been cultivating and harvesting botanicals on their biodynamic farm, nestled in the pristine Adelaide Hills of South Australia.

The Jurlique Farm Tour is a behind the scenes walking tour of their biodynamic far. We learnt about the nature and science behind their skin care products.

We even received a lovely tote bag and some hand cream 😁

Happy Mother’s Day from Adelaide!

After disembarking The Ghan 😢 we were met by our South Australian Tourism Commission hosts who were ready to whisk us off on a half day journey showcasing some of South Australia’s finest produce & culinary experiences.

First Stop - Tasting Australia

Tasting Australia presented by Journey Beyond is one of the country’s longest running eating and drinking festivals. Each autumn they invite audiences to step beyond a standard food festival to discover deliciously different experiences.

Adelaide Town Square is the festival hub. It is home to deliciously diverse eating and drinking experiences and free entry.

Here we experienced a degustation lunch paired with local wines. My tastebuds were on fire with the exquisite flavours. I may have had a second helping of desert 🤤😜

I can’t believe it is our last night in the Ghan.

Fantastic food (the quality of food that comes out of the small kitchens is unbelievable), drinks, off train experiences and many boisterous UNO games were played!

But wait, there’s more. Got back to my cabin to find a gift from Journey Beyond, an opal to remember our time at Coober Pedy! I am so extremely grateful to have had this experience with my Beyonder Family ❤️

Goodbye Painted Hills, hello Lake Eyre - stretching a mind-boggling 144 kilometres by 77 kilometres, formed approximately 200 million years ago and is the lowest point below sea level on the Australian continent.

When the lake’s water level is low, its glittering crystalised surface stretches as far as the eye can see. Lake Eyre floods approximately every 10 years, and with the significant flooding in Queensland, it is potentially leading to the most substantial fill in at least 15 years. We flew over the northern part of the lake, watching the brown flood water slowly spread across the white salt flats.

OMG, still pinching myself that I got to witness this, Journey Beyond you have done it again!

Lunch at William Creek, one of the wold's most remote pubs. Renowned for being the smallest town in Australia with a current permanent population of 6. For a small donation to the Royal Flying Doctors, stapled my business card for prosperity on the pub’s hallowed walls 😁
