Built in the 16th century by the legendary samurai warlord Toyotomi Hideyoshi, it played a central role in the unification of Japan is famous for being one of Japan’s most historically significant and visually iconic landmarks.

The castle’s stone walls feature an estimated 500,000 to 1 million stones using a mortar-less technique called "burdock piling," the builders somehow placed massive boulders, with some individual stones weighing well over 100 tonnes 😳

The Osaka Castle Observation Deck is located on the 8th floor of the castle's main tower. It offers an unobstructed, panoramic 360-degree view of the city skyline, surrounding park.

Said to be one of the three best scenic sites of Japan, Miyajima Island has long been thought of as the divine island.

Located just off the coast of Hiroshima, and is easily reached via a 10-minute ferry ride.

🇳🇫 Norfolk 1825-1855 🇳🇫

For three decades the island was home to a penal settlement - a brutal and unforgiving sentence for the convicts that were sent to her shores.

Along the beautiful coastline of Kingston today still stand the officers’ homes, the Military Barracks, Government House, the Commissariat Building and other ancillary buildings.

On a Convict Settlement Tour we learned about this fascinating history - we also had the chance to stand among the ruins of the gaol and see the tiny cells and exercise yards where the convicts lived… many of them in chains. With sandstone, soil and timber taken from the island by the hard labour of the prisoners, the settlement was built.

A stroll through the Norfolk Island Cemetery showed just how harsh the conditions were… with the oldest graves dating back to the penal years - including those of some of the prisoners who were executed on the island.
