Blackwattle Alpaca Farm - Murrumbateman Blackwattle Alpacas - tours and picnics! Our primary goal in our breeding program is to breed well natured alpacas with calm temperaments.

We are a small enough stud to allow us to spend quality time with each and every alpaca, and this in turn teaches our alpacas to trust humans more. We train and handle our alpacas calmly and respectfully and give each alpaca time to understand what it is that we are asking them to do. From fully understanding their body language and how they think we tailor our training to suit their needs. We off

er a range of alpacas for sale: pets, herd guards, pregnant females with cria and herd starter packages at reasonable prices. Packages available to suit any budget and property size. We can help you if you’re having handling issues with your alpacas or if you want to learn a different way of handling alpacas in a more kind and respectful way. We offer guidance and training hits and tips and are more than happy to share any information that we have learnt along the way.

Are you looking to add colour to your alpaca herd? We have some alpacas that are looking for new homes, that would suit the coloured breeder! Pebbles and Inca, mother and daughter, (first two photos) would be the perfect addition to a coloured breeding program! Pixie (chocolate) and Matilda (medium fawn) are also very nice females and both are proven breeders. Matilda comes with her male cria at foot.

As we shift the focus toward our growing school education programs and tourism experiences, we have made the very difficult decision to step back from breeding. This means we are now offering a rare opportunity to purchase from our carefully bred and much-loved herd. It is a shame to keep these genetics on our farm and not breed from them, so we have decided to let some of them go.

Our alpacas are known for their appaloosa genetics, with a strong focus on colour and highly patterned appaloosa lines. Each animal has been thoughtfully bred, or purchased from other breeders, for quality fleece, conformation and colour genetics.

We have a select group of females some with cria at foot, maidens, certified working stud males, and junior males available now. Each will be offered individually, but we’re also open to expressions of interest for the entire herd.

Today we welcomed the students from Marist College for a fun and educational day on the farm!

As part of their curriculum-based program, the day began with a deep dive into the fascinating world of alpacas and llamas - learning about their history, how they came to Australia, and the amazing ways we use their fibre.

Afterwards, we headed out to meet the herds, with plenty of time for hand feeding and getting up close with our curious crew. Lunch break gave everyone a chance to refuel before we set off again - this time walking our alpacas and llamas around the farm and down by the dam.

Thanks for visiting, Marist! We loved sharing our animals and knowledge with you.

What to draw your own alpaca or llama? Join us on the farm for 2 days of learning, laughter and llamas (and alpacas); and tap into your creative side!

Whether you want to take your skills to the next level, or you're looking to try something new - this hands-on experience is perfect for beginners and art enthusiasts alike, offering personalised attention through every step of the process.

You will get to meet our alpacas to choose the subject of your portrait and over the course of the 2 day workshop you will learn versatile drawing techniques for creating a realistic animal portrait. There will be plenty of time to observe, sketch, and practice while you soak in the landscape views. The finished result will be an A5 portrait of your chosen alpaca to take home and amaze your friends and family with.
