If you are travelling to Rome, make sure you jump online and book tickets for sites like the Colosseum and the Pantheon as tickets do sell out.

Just around the corner from the Colosseum and worth a visit is San Clemente, a 12th Century Basilica built like much of Rome on layers of history. Descending below ground, you can explore a 4th century Church, and further below a 1st century Mithraic temple and public building.
