Purpose of role
Assist in the Management of pigs raised for the pork production industry. Managing from farrow to finish. Assist in the overall production process by caring for and providing food and water to livestock, as well as the maintenance of the living areas
Main duties and responsibilities
Core objectives include:
• Assist the supervisor (farm owner) to Breed and raise pigs for production (Artificial insemination, natural mating, and all other breeding duties.)
• Monitor and maintain the health of livestock including daily inspection of livestock to ensure they are fed and watered, and attend to compromised livestock
• Providing pastures and fodder to maintain appropriate nutritional levels.
• Clean and maintain pig accommodation pens, fittings, and equipment
• Remove and dispose of all waste
• Provide care and basic treatment for sick and injured livestock
• Safe operations of vehicles and equipment
• Perform basic maintenance and repairs of equipment and fittings
• Data Collection and keeping records of dry sow management.
• Evaluate records

Fulfill other duties as required by management and other department personnel as requested/required.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in agriculture or higher qualification and at least 3 years experience OR
• Five years of relevant experience may substitute for the formal qualifications
Experience
• Farrow to finish
• Experience in all parts of pig farming and caring for livestock
• Excellent skills in pig breeding
