Recently, while out on the water, we were fortunate enough to encounter a pod of False Killer Whales off Magnetic Island (see our post from 5 days ago), a rare and memorable sighting that has since been featured by News.com.au.
Despite their name, False Killer Whales are actually one of the largest members of the dolphin family. Highly intelligent, social and fast-moving, they are not commonly seen in our local waters, making this encounter incredibly special for both our crew and guests.
For us, moments like these highlight why the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park is such an extraordinary place. Every day brings something different, and even after years of exploring these waters, nature still finds ways to surprise us.
As local operators and passionate ocean advocates, sightings like this also contribute to our understanding of marine life movements and the importance of protecting healthy ocean ecosystems.
A huge congratulations to Adam for capturing the footage and helping share this incredible wildlife encounter with a wider audience.
