It was a very summer-ish day on Saturday, and the whales were here for it!
Guests were treated to aerobatics during our 11am and 1:30pm cruises, while our 3:30pm guests enjoyed a mugging- with a pair of humpbacks choosing to circle the boat for the best part of half an hour as we drifted in a south current.

If you've been onboard, you have probably heard us talk about Happywhale
Many of the whales we view on our daily cruises get logged on Happywhale, and sometimes we get some really fun feedback!

On the 11th July, we logged a humpback that was part of a competitive pod. We later received a notification to say that the same whale was recorded off Terrigal the day before. That's a distance of 106km in less than 24hrs!

It was Rick Worthy Oz Nature Photography who recorded the sighting off Terrigal while onboard Terrigal Ocean Tours. Rick put together this great illustration showing the movements of this humpback and was kind enough to share it with us!

The westerly winds whipped back up yesterday, but guests were rewarded for braving the elements.
On all four cruises, we saw humpbacks come together to form competitive pods (a group of males pursuing a female, attempting to out manoeuvre each other and earn the right to es**rt and possibly mate with the female). During each chase, we witnessed a variety of surface behaviours, including breaching, tail lobs and pec slaps.

It was a wet and wild Sunday afternoon, but we were rewarded for patience and perseverance. While there were plenty of whales moving through, the first couple of groups we visited were spending long periods travelling underwater and proved difficult to track.
Eventually, we spotted an active duo approaching Fingal Lighthouse. We were treated to about 30 minutes of continuous breaching and pectoral slaps!
