𝗖𝗢𝗟𝗢𝗚𝗡𝗘, 𝗚𝗘𝗥𝗠𝗔𝗡𝗬 🇩🇪

A city of magnificent architecture, fascinating history and stories that stay with you.

From the soaring twin spires of Cologne Cathedral to the thousands of love locks on Hohenzollern Bridge, there’s so much to discover.

But Cologne also has a darker history. During WWII, thousands of Jewish people were deported from the lower platforms of Köln Messe/Deutz railway station, many never to return.

Today, it’s a busy railway station, with travellers going about their everyday lives. A sobering reminder of the history that surrounds us, often in the most ordinary of places.

Travel is about more than seeing beautiful destinations. It’s also about understanding their history, the people who lived there and the stories that deserve to be remembered.

𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗼𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗿𝘂𝗶𝘀𝗲? 🤔🚢

It's something I hear surprisingly often. People love the idea of river cruising but think they're not quite old enough yet!

After more than 20 years of river cruising, I think we're asking the wrong question.

It's not really about your age. It's about how you like to travel.

Our daughter Hayley was just 12 when she joined us on a river cruise along the Mekong. But does that mean river cruising is for everyone? Absolutely not!

Some travellers love the slower pace, while others need plenty of activity. And there are river cruises that cater for both.

I've put together a blog sharing my experiences, including a couple of videos filmed during my current European river cruise, to help you decide whether river cruising might be right for you.

Beautiful half-timbered houses, cobblestone streets, freshly baked pretzels and even a rather eccentric art gallery!

There’s something interesting (and occasionally quirky!) around every corner.

It’s places like Miltenberg that remind us why we love travelling. Taking the time to explore, soak up the atmosphere and discover the unexpected along the way.

Don’t worry, it’s only temporary while we’re docked in town!

One of those little things you might not know about river cruising is that docking space can be limited, so river ships will often dock side by side.

And of course, the guests on the ship next door are looking straight back at us too! 👋😂

Once we’re sailing again, the river view returns.
