Last week we stepped off the convention centre floor and onto the green for an evening at the Adelaide Bowls Club with our partners at the South Australian Tourism Commission, surrounded by our trusted South Australian suppliers, travel agent partners and industry colleagues who make this work meaningful.

Delicious South Australian produce on the plate. Good drinks in hand. A few competitive moments on the bowls lawn.

You’ve never seen Australia like this….

The Kimberley stretches across the far north of Western Australia - a region of ancient gorges, thundering waterfalls, and a coastline so remote it still belongs almost entirely to the wild. Thirty minutes from Brisbane, Queensland, across a bay that shimmers like hammered copper at sunrise, sits an island that feels like Australia before the rest of the world arrived.

Australians have long embraced the bilby as our Easter animal, and for good reason. With its long ears and soft silhouette, it may look a little familiar, but the story behind it is uniquely our own.

Unlike rabbits, which were introduced to Australia and have caused widespread environmental damage, the greater bilby is a native marsupial with an important place in our ecosystems. The idea of the Easter Bilby helped create a local symbol for the season while building awareness for a species that is threatened in the wild. Today, bilbies survive in fragmented populations across parts of the Northern Territory, Western Australia and south west Queensland, with feral cats and foxes among their biggest threats.

This Easter, it feels fitting to celebrate a native icon that is distinctly Australian.
