Today is your last full day in Victoria Falls and you are free today to explore this area on your own or to relax around the pool. With the falls pumping so much water it would be a great time to go up in a microlight for a magical aerial view. Not only do you see the falls but you are often able to view elephants, hippos and other animals coming down to the Zambezi to drink and play in the water. [ 340 more words ]

It is a little bit overcast this morning in Cape Town and the table cloth has rolled over the top of Table Mountain reducing visibility completely. As this is not an uncommon occurrence, there is always a backup plan so you will go on a culinary walking tour within the city. Kicking off from the Company Gardens with a coffee and a pastéis de natas you will spend the next four hours discovering the history of the city while tasting its culinary delights. They are the largest falls in the world, not the highest, nor the widest but the combination of width, height and volume of water cascading over them, makes them the greatest falls in the world. They are of course Mosi-oa-Tunya or as named by the explorer Robert Livingstone, Victoria Falls. The border of Zimbabwe and Zambia runs down the middle of the Zambezi river and the falls can be viewed from either side. [ 374 more words ]

It can be a bit chaotic crossing borders in Southern Africa and today at Kazungula was no exception. Kazungula is situated at the confluence of the Zambezi and Chobe rivers, the meeting point of Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe. It is at this point where trucks from Zambia and the Congo carrying copper and other minerals cross into Botswana for the onward journey to the port of Durban in South Africa. [ 264 more words ]

Another splendid day in Africa. The Fish Eagle has been calling since first light and you are heading out again onto the Chobe River. It is mid-morning and the river is quiet compared to yesterday afternoon when there were boats of varying sizes cruising up and down the channels watching the large herd of buffalos on Sedudu Island. This island is a small land mass in the Chobe channel which is subject to flooding during the rainy season and is a lush feeding ground at other times. [ 356 more words ]

Having said goodbye to all at Ngala you will travel back to Johannesburg to catch a flight to Kasane in Botswana. The flight will take an hour and 45 minutes and after the normal customs and immigration, the trip to Bakwana lodge is only a few kilometres away. Kasane is in the north east of Botswana near the borders of Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe and is the gateway to the Chobe National Park. [ 278 more words ]

The past three days have been amazing. You have been pampered by the staff at Ngala, whose attention to detail is outstanding and the chef has been first-class. Thankfully the weather has been perfect so you have been able to have a swim every day and what a perfect place to relax and watch the various animals coming down to the camp waterhole.
