How is YOUR garden going so far this spring? With early hot weather then heavy rain, I'm sure it doesn't know what season it is! My biggest headache in dry weather is keeping the water up to the small amount of garden i have cultivated so far as i have no hoses or pumps etc to irrigate. it's all watering cans from the spring. I'm just grateful I have that spring as my tanks are tiny and I cannot afford to water the garden with precious tank water.
Many home owners have begun spring all full of excitement about the coming seasons. My advice to you is to be realistic!
It is not a competition to see who can produce the most or biggest Zucchini or tomatoes or whatever. It just goes to waste! Unless you are right into preserving, just one or two tomatoes should supply a family of 4 easily. I hope they're in by now but you could probably sneak in a dwarf/ bush variety for a later crop, but please only one.
Living in paradise , as I am ( Noojee) comes with its own sometimes peculiar problems. Wallabies, King Parrots and Possums can sometimes be a bit of a pain. Possums will rarely climb out of the trees to reach a desired plant to chomp so if you are establishing say a rose bed, consider plonking it in the middle of the lawn rather than against a fence. it will probably do better in the open anyway. I'm not saying is a cure but it's a start.
The parrots have demolished all the flowers and/or buds off quite a few plants ( yet leave the actual plant alone.) Michelia, Liriodendron, and most of the blossoming trees were destroyed. What to do? The jury is still out on that as all plants are far too large to net plus I have a backyard full of gorgeous birds which i love so I think at the end of the day I'll just suck it up and enjoy thier company.
What about you? What problems or pests unique or otherwise, do you have in your garden? I'd love to hear.
