One thing that catches visitors off guard in Australia is how many of us automatically say “thanks” to the bus driver when we get off.

Thing is yes it's polite but it's not something really done in other countries. It's partly to do with our culture that no one is beneath you and to show respect to all public service workers.

Bus drivers, checkout workers, bar staff, tradies, cleaners, whoever for a lot of Aussies, saying thanks is just the bare minimum.

In other countries, these workers are the ones that tend to cop stuck up flog energy.
