SEVERE WEATHER WARNING FOR THIS LONG WEEKEND ⚠️
Several key sites in the South West will be closed over the long weekend, including DPAW campsites in Warren National Park, the Dave Evans Bicentennial Tree and a number of other campgrounds, access roads and attractions.
Parks, trails, attractions and campgrounds in the Midwest, South West and Perth metropolitan area and down to the south coast may close at short notice due to extreme weather or safety concerns.
If you’re heading to WA’s south-western coastline this long weekend, please take extra care and stay informed.
For the latest updates on park, campground and trail closures, check Park Alerts https://alerts.dbca.wa.gov.au
🌊 Dangerous coastal conditions are expected, including large swells and tidal surges that can quickly inundate beaches and low-lying areas and rock platforms.
💨 Very strong winds may bring down trees and branches, making walking tracks and campgrounds hazardous.
🌧️ Heavy rainfall could lead to flash flooding, especially in gorges, river crossings and low-lying areas.
Your safety is your responsibility – if conditions look unsafe, be prepared to change your plans or reconsider your visit.
Plan ahead, know before you go and stay up to date by checking:

We are still buzzing from Saturday’s launch of our brand new Garden Gallery at the Northcliffe Visitor Centre & Public Library

We had a special guest travel all the way from the in Canberra. Curator Leanne Santoro joined us to officially inaugurate an incredible new resident of our forest: Lisa Roet's - Orangutan Foot. 🦍👣

This striking piece will live at the entrance to our iconic Understory trail, a symbol of the world-class art we are lucky enough to have right here in our own backyard. This trail belongs to all of us. Whether you’re popping over from Quinninup, driving down from Manjimup or Pemberton, or heading inland from Windy Harbour, this is your artistic sanctuary to explore, enjoy, and take pride in. Come wander the new Garden Gallery, find the Orangutan Foot and connect with nature through our local regional artists.

Here's a little sneak peak with Leanne and Southern Forest Arts- Artistic Director Sinclair giving us a little tour. There are dozens more sculptures to explore along the trail, which is usually fun for all ages. So bring the family along for a creative adventure.

ABOUT THE FILM

'Genocide in the Wildflower State' is truth telling and a demand for justice. It holds to account successive parliaments in Western Australia that have failed to make redress. It is about helping to heal the trauma in the Survivor community, and building understanding in broader society.

ABOUT JIM

Jim is a Minang-Goreng Noongar Elder, a Traditional Custodian of WA’s pristine southern coast. He has been a leader in pivotal Aboriginal community advancement roles for over five decades, working for the rights of the Stolen Generations and their families; Aboriginal child protection; the tragic mental health, justice and su***de issues in his community; equity in access to culturally safe services in State and Commonwealth Governments; Aboriginal Elder (Aged) Care overdue prison reforms; trauma informed healing programs and the formation and management of Aboriginal controlled organisations providing services to Aboriginal families and their broader communities.

He has won the John Curtin Medal for services to the community and partnered in winning seven awards in the virtual and Elder Survivor story augmented conservation of Aboriginal Missions in WA.

Jim is the current Chair of the WA Stolen Generations Aboriginal Corporation, a founding member of Reconciliation WA and the architect and initial manager of Yokai Healing Our Spirit. Jim’s favourite hobby is hosting a weekly Aboriginal current affairs program Moorditj Mag on Perth’s RTR FM 92.1, which feeds to Noongar Radio.
