Our first couple of days on our Northern Italy trip included riding e-bikes through vineyards, exploring Europe’s biggest open air food market, visiting a wine bank, dining on delicious local produce, what else…oh we also hit up a couple of Savoy palaces.

Next stop Liguria to walk the Cinque Terre and boat cruise on the mediterrean sea before finishing up in Tuscany with a couple of cooking classes.

If you’d like to come with us next year, please send a message or email and we can let you know as soon as the dates are set (verrrry soon).

Reporting in from Slovenia with the last instalment of my ā€˜Pink Pelican does Slovenia’ research notes.

This city has got it all going on; it’s picture perfect at every turn, tiny and so easy to get your bearings.

Ljubljana ticks pretty much every box, you’ve got the cobbled streets of the old town, a castle on the hill, a dragon bridge, crazy-good pastries and cocktails, a daily covered market, fab shopping (even the souvenir shops are sweet), parks everywhere and a river to cruise along while sipping on local bubbles.

Come back here with me in November and we’ll explore it all together.

And in the meantime, if you happen to be in Ljubljana any time soon, here are a few hot tips (not exhaustive I know, but we went to and loved all of the below);

šŸ‘ŒIf you’re there on a Friday, go to Open Kitchen Odprta kuhna market next to the river.
🚲 Hire a bike from Hostel 123 (just on the river) for 10 euro a day and explore Tivoli Park, the Botanic gardens and the old town.
šŸ·Drinks opposite St Florian church at Ferdinand bar. Bar Ferdinand
šŸ“Dinner at Julija
🄐 Pastries from
ā˜•ļøCoffee from
šŸøCocktails at

What have I missed? If you have any tips to share, please let me know!

Thanks for following along this research trip. Am writing now from the train station in Venice having just returned the hire car (phew - isn’t it always a relief to hand back the keys and get on a train and let someone else do the driving/navigating!) and waiting to head to Turin where tomorrow we meet our Northern Italy group and begin that adventure.

If you have any questions at all about these trips, please message us or comment below and we’ll get right back to you.

Come to Venice with us in November and we’ll show you everything from the quiet corners to the glory sights. And some treasures in between.

I’ve been here for a few days now, exploring on foot and boat and stepping out the perfect itinerary for our group.

If you’re interested in coming along, please send us a message and hit us up with any questions at all.

Here are a few snippets of my favourite moments from this trip. Seriously, is there any place more jaw-droppingly, iconically beautiful than Venice!!!

With our first Bali group flying home as we write . Here’s a little update from our tour leaders, Addy and Mel on how the week went (although we think the photos really do speak for themselves!).

What a wonderful group and experience. Get in touch with us if you’d like to put a group together or just come on your own and see Bali with us next year.

ā€œOur fabulous group, literally shopped until they dropped, so many shoes, bags, leather, dresses - however still managed to have chill out time in the pool each day, enjoying massages and cocktails at our awesome hotel. We dined in 5-star restaurants, wore our new outfits and enjoyed so much delicious food. We even managed to fill a container full of furniture & pots!ā€

With less than a month to go until we take our next Pink Pelican Groups off and away to Bali (with Addy) and Northern Italy (with Soph), it’s all systems go with packing lists being sent out, WhatsApp groups being set up and the itinerary and every booking being triple checked so the minute we meet our guests, it’s smooth sailing.

This is the Pink Pelican difference; every trip is taken by a tour coordinator (Flis for Italy, Mel for Bali) and tour host (Soph for Italy, Addy for Bali).

We do all the research, make all the bookings and all you have to do is come with curiosity, a willingness to make some great new friends, eat and drink really well and explore a part of Italy and Bali that we know you will fall in love with as we have.

If you’d like to come with us on one of our future trips (we have a handful of spots left for the Venice/Slovenia trip in November this year), please either send a DM or head to the link in our profile and flick us an email. We can’t wait to travel with you.

Why should you come to Venice and Slovenia with us this November?
Where do we start?

In November, the crowds thin and Venice exhales. We will explore misty calli, have aperitifs in cool little bars, hit the big sights (we can't not show you the St Mark’s Basilica and the Doge's Palace) but we'll also take you to SERIOUSLY beautiful palazzi, markets, shops and more.

Then we'll hop on our little bus (just ours for the rest of the trip - same driver too) and slip across the border into Slovenia's Soča Valley, where turquoise waters cut through limestone—a landscape Ernest Hemingway called "too beautiful for war."
Our small group will walk alongside these waters and we'll e-bike through GoriŔka Brda's vineyards (landscapes Tuscany would envy - minus the crowds), tasting intensely mineral wines that rarely cross borders.

At Lake Bled, we'll have those postcard views largely to ourselves, and then we'll finish the trip in Ljubljana, a charming capital city where medieval meets modern, with a farewell dinner in a beautiful castle overlooking the city lights.

We're so excited about this trip from Venetian grandeur to Slovenia's pristine mountains and picture book castle and pretty capital.

Excitement levels are high in Team Pink Pelican because…this time in just under 10 weeks we will be back in Turin, Soph’s favourite European city.

Our hotel is just around the corner from this incredible courtyard, which, fun fact, is where vermouth was first created. Antonio Carpano was a herbalist of note, and in the late 18th century, he began tinkering with fortified wine and botanicals and sent a crate of what he came up with to the King Vittorio Amedeo III (who lived in the Royal Palace pretty much around the corner). The king took such a liking to the drink, he adopted it as one of the royal household and the rest is history.

I feel like there’s a story around every corner and in every courtyard of this city (don’t get me started on the tales of white and black magic and ā€˜esoteric’ Turin). And I can’t wait to share them with our group in May.

That trip is fully booked but if you’d like to join us next year or come to Venice and Slovenia with us in November this year, please do send us a DM.

Pic two is one of the classic Carpano posters, and the last is me in full ā€˜tour guide’ mode in front of the Royal Palace.
