🌿 Happy WA Day

Today we celebrate the people, communities and landscapes that make Western Australia such a special place to call home.

We also recognise that we are currently within National Reconciliation Week, a time to listen, learn and strengthen relationships through respect and understanding.

We are fortunate to live and work on Noongar Country and to share this remarkable part of Western Australia with visitors from near and far.

This weekend storms announced the return of Makaru with a bang! Thes phenomenal winds have transformed the landscape. The dunes have been swept clean by wind and rain and, in many places, look as though no one has ever walked on them.

It’s a reminder that these landscapes are never static — they’re constantly evolving with the seasons and the weather.

Wherever you’re spending WA Day, we hope you have the opportunity to enjoy a little of what makes Western Australia so unique.

What a fantastic time in for the Western Australian Tourism Conference. An opportunity to rub shoulders with some of the best within our industry. Also a chance to showcase our region. A great effort from taking out silver and congratulations to taking home Bronze in the However the star of the show for the Shire of Manjimup goes to Our Legend himself Gary Muir, being awarded the Local tourism Legend category at FACET Tourism Western Australia

One of the first things many visitors notice about the Warren River is its colour.

Depending on the light, the water can appear amber, golden-brown, or almost like a strong cup of tea. But despite how it looks, the river is often incredibly clean.

So what causes it?

The colour comes from natural tannins released by surrounding vegetation as leaves, bark, and organic matter break down in the water. Karri forests and wetland environments are especially rich in these tannins, which slowly stain the river over time.

It’s the same natural compounds that give tea its colour!

In the right conditions, the river can even reflect the forest around it like glass, creating those deep brown and gold tones the Warren is known for.

This time of year is a great time to observe the river water flowing into the Southern Ocean, staining it with its copper colour, creating beautiful patterns as it flows in.

It’s one of the many little details that make this region feel so special.
