A very special way to wrap up this year’s Yeagarup clean-up.

This year we removed an estimated 200 kg of rubbish — around 3.7 m³ — from the Yeagarup area.

That’s still far too much, but it’s also a major reduction on previous years, which is really encouraging.

A huge thank you to Friends of Yeagarup, including those who travelled from Perth and beyond and made a weekend of it, along with DBCA, Keep Australia Beautiful WA, Tangaroa Blue, the Pemberton YES Cadets and every volunteer who came along and helped.

And there was something very special waiting for us at Crossings Bakery.

Behind us in the photo is a crab-net wreath created by artist Merle Davis, using rubbish collected during our 2025 Yeagarup clean-up. The artwork was organised by the wonderful Shirley from Keep Australia Beautiful WA as a reminder of what is being removed from these places — and why these clean-ups matter.

It will now be on display at Pemberton Crossings Bakery.

Today's the day — Yeagarup clean-up day.

We are heading out from Pemberton this morning with volunteers to give the area a clean-up before summer, and the timing could not be better for seeing the spring wildflowers along the way.

Thank you to everyone joining us, helping behind the scenes and caring enough about this place to give up part of a Sunday for it.

Two for one really: help look after Yeagarup, and get a beautiful day out in the bush while you are doing it.

It is such a busy weekend… after a couple of transfers, visiting Northcliffe Visitor Centre and meeting Ce down from the Bibbulmun Track Foundation for the opening of the at Understory Art & Nature Trail (the new exhibition is causing some controversy - it certainly pulls the heart strings).

A trip via Broke to pick up walkers on the track, and whilst I was waiting took some snaps (not as good as yours, Melissa), of some of the stunning wildflowers out at the moment. I swear we could be in a garden. Mel is out with Graeme today on the and I look forward to seeing her images.

Back to Northcliffe before picking up a couple of delightful representatives from Taiwan here for the opening of the trail and delivering them safely to Pemberton.

Town was noisy - it’s the RallyWA.com Warren Race today with the Pemberton Sports Club carpark full of cars, and drivers showing off their cars. As the race is in the Warren area, the road to Northcliffe was almost as busy as a grand Torino.

Anyhow it was time to get home, hit the office and catch up with messages and emails, whist listening to the distant sounds of the rally competing with the native birds in the forest. 🫣😅😂

Trail Fest weekend is here, and Pemberton will be full of people who would much rather be outside than looking at a screen.

We have been supporting people on the Bibbulmun Track and Munda Biddi for years, and these days that includes trail transfers, supported walking adventures and mountain-bike shuttles as well as our guided eco tours.

It’s always special to receive recognition for your hard work, especially when so much effort goes into creating memorable experiences for our visitors and contributing back to our local community.

Over the weekend, Pemberton Discovery Tours celebrated three wins and two runner-up awards at the BSW Connect Small Business Awards.

To say we’re over the moon is probably an understatement. Recognition like this gives us an extra boost of enthusiasm for what we do and reminds us why we keep putting so much into the business, our visitors and our region.

A huge thank you to BSW Connect, the judges, sponsors and everyone involved in the awards — and congratulations to all the other finalists and winners. 💚

Want a 4WD day out to Yeagarup Beach? There’s just one catch — we’d like you to help us clean it up. 🌊

This Sunday we’re heading back out for our annual Yeagarup clean-up with the Friends of Yeagarup crew., Keep Australia Beautiful, DBCA and Tangaroa Blue, and we still have seats available.

We’ll take you out by 4WD, spend time giving this remote stretch of coast a clean-up, and enjoy Pemberton right in the middle of wildflower season along the way. Transport and lunch are included, families are welcome, and 4WD owners can join us as a tag-along.

Sunday 18 October • meet in Pemberton at 9am • places are limited.

If you are in Pemberton today, the Southern Forests Trout Festival is on at Big Brook Dam from 9am to 1pm.

It is one of those very Pemberton days out — families, the forest, the water and a fantastic family friendly escape into the forests with plenty happening around the dam. If you are visiting for the festival, make a proper weekend of it and leave time to explore beyond Big Brook as well.

There is a lot more of Pemberton just beyond the bitumen.

Every bird counts — and today, for World Migratory Bird Day, so do our observations.

One of the pleasures of moving slowly through the forest, lake, heath and coast is noticing what is around us. Birds can tell us a lot about season, habitat and change, but only if people keep looking and recording what they see. We noticed our incredible volume of birdlife on our return from Canada and Japan. We seem to have a lot more species in the forests near our home (sometimes I have to go inside to take a phone call - its too noisy!).

On our tours, the Warren River mouth and Yeagarup coastline can be particularly rewarding places to stop, watch and listen. We are very excited to keep an eye on the beach to see when the Fairy Terns arrive. This year is bittersweet with the bird flu cases increasing. We hope the measures we have taken will make it safer for us all including our furred and feathered friends. It's a special year - let's all do our bit and measure what we see.
