🐧 “Flippin’ flippers… the penguins have been busy!”

It had been a couple of weeks since our last daytime burrow check, so this morning we were up bright and early (before young conservation legend Koby had to head off to school) to see what our little penguins have been up to.

The results were exciting:
• 41 adult penguins spotted in burrows
• A couple of eggs currently being incubated 🥚
• Possible chick noises heard from a few burrows… but we’ll wait until the next burrow check before officially confirming that one 👀
• Plenty of activity around the colony, with penguins busily collecting nesting material and preparing burrows for the breeding season ahead.

Even more exciting, these numbers are slightly higher than what we recorded at the same time last year, so we’re quietly optimistic for a fantastic breeding season ahead 🐧💙

41 on first tour with a highlight moment being 21 penguins in a raft coming on in!
Second tour saw 18 penguins but up a bit closer to our walkways

Lots of burrows getting ready for the upcoming chick season, the last 2 years our first chick has been spotted on the 31st of May (chick's are about 3-4 weeks old when we first see them outside of burrows)

Burrow Check Update 🐧

We spotted 13 little penguins tucked up in their burrows today!

There’s plenty of activity happening, with lots of nesting material being brought in as the colony gets ready for breeding season.

Things are starting to get lively here, with our little penguins returning from their break and busy preparing their burrows for the upcoming breeding season. It’s a great time to visit!

Over the past week, we’ve been spotting 15–28 penguins each evening 👀
