King Parrot Cottages

King Parrot Cottages Accommodation, retreats, conferences and events located in the Otways, only 2 hours from Melbourne. Dogs are welcome by prior arrangement.

King Parrot Cottages and Event Centre provides accommodation near the Great Ocean Road and Lorne in the Otway Ranges, nestled on the north-facing hillside of the spectacular Pennyroyal Valley. Consisting five cottages, lodge, hall and campground, King Parrot is a popular destination for romantic getaways, family holidays or large family celebrations. The architecturally designed accommodation made

from local timber, is fully self-contained, ranging in size from single to four bedrooms, accommodating between two and fourteen people. Each offers comfort, character and privacy in a rustic bush land setting, including stunning valley views. The campground, surrounded by beautiful forest, provides the option of getting back to nature. There are eight very generous camping sites, including three cabin-tents, on the rainforest valley floor. We cap our camping area to a maximum of twenty two campers to ensure plenty of room and comfort. There is a wide range of activities at your finger-tips; the salt water swimming pool, games room with table tennis, fuse ball, air hockey, darts, board games, outdoor games and small indoor gym. Bush-walking tracks and waterfalls abound in the immediate vicinity and within close reach are the beautiful beaches along the Great Ocean Road, the wonders of the Otway National Park and the gourmet trail of berry farms, fine foods and farm produce. If you wish to book for a large family/friend gathering, it is a requirement that you book the whole property for a minimum of two nights and it must be booked directly with management. (Noise restrictions do apply). Our accommodation and hall combine to provide the perfect venue for corporate retreats, conferences as well as health, yoga, adventure and meditation groups. Being such a magnificent environment, King Parrot is also very popular for weddings. We recognise King Parrot stands on what always was and always will be Gadubanud Country. We acknowledge descendants of the Gadubanud, along with others identifying as Maar, as the traditional owners of these unceded lands, waters and skies. Our acknowledgement also extends to the neighbouring Wadawurrung and to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. We pay our respects to Country, the people, and Elders: past, present and emerging. Gadubanud Country stretches between Painkalac and Yan Yan Gurt creeks, along Barre Warre Yulluk and Barrat (Barwon and Gellibrand rivers) and runs all the coast between. Five clans managed the area with fire to sustain life of Country and maintain travel corridors through the ranges. Cultural ties with the Gulidjan to the north and Kirrae Whurrung to the southwest are observed, and it has been said that Gadubanud translates to ‘King Parrot language’; a dialect belonging to the Gunditjmara language group. Nonetheless, colonial atrocities and the isolation of the rainforest have rendered knowledge of Gadubanud custom and tradition a relative mystery. Today still, the Otways can encompass inhabitants to feel beyond reach of the wider world. We are grateful to experience such solace here, like many generations before us.

The fire crackles.
Steam curls from your cup.
A book rests in your lap and the valley stretches wide beyond the glass.

Here, time softens. The forest holds you.
And the world feels, just for a moment, beautifully still.

Let the rain fall. Let your shoulders drop. Let yourself be.

Your place to pause is waiting. 👉 www.kingparrot.com.au

Lately, the stories of regional Australia have been making their way into the spotlight and we think it’s about time. From artists and makers to growers, builders, and dreamers, there are so many creative, hardworking people shaping vibrant communities far from the city lights.

If you're curious to learn more, grab a copy of GALAH next time you're visiting. It's full of thoughtful stories and beautiful imagery that celebrate life in the regions, just like ours here in Pennyroyal.

So why not cosy up with a hot cuppa, a good read, and that wintry bush view? Or better yet… come stay a while and experience it for yourself at King Parrot 💚

I’ve been wanting to post about this for a while now but couldn’t quite find the words to do it justice. Thankfully, Sal from Otways Distillery has — and she’s kindly given us permission to share her powerful message.

This fight is far from over. While the government has delayed the levy by one year, the proposed tax still looms — adding pressure to communities already under immense financial strain from this heartbreaking drought.

If you feel called, Sal has included a link to a petition below. Every voice matters. Every bit of support counts. 👇

🌬️ Last night the wind sang us a very dramatic lullaby — trees swaying, windows rattling, a full Otways orchestra.

If you’re also running on zero sleep and pure caffeine, we feel you.

We love local roasters Hello Coffee for fuelling the day and keeping our eyelids open, just! ☕
