🐬 Over 75 curious Year 5 students participated in our Wild Ways program today!

Their knowledge was on full display as we talked about animal adaptations and survival. They asked thoughtful questions and eagerly got up close with our sea stars, brittle stars and marine specimens.

The megalodon tooth, sea sponges and abalone shells were clear favourites, but their excitement and enthusiasm were the real highlight of the day for me!

😊 July school holiday fun

ODE was busy running sessions, activities and events all around Perth & Albany over the last fortnight. We also loved the new, interactive Ocean Xperience exhibition at the WA museum.

Swipe through to check out our setups - don't miss the fun animal sightings at the end!

βš“οΈ ODE's third year at Albany's Maritime Festival was amazing!

Being under the marquee for 'All At Sea Saturday' was busy, fun, enjoyable, and the perfect way to start the school holidays.

People of all ages visited our discovery tables to share their ocean stories, learn new facts and explore the specimen collection.

AND, we launched our mini marine scientist microscope and it was a roaring success!

Thanks Albany, we love you ❀️

πŸ”¬ A whole new world is waiting beneath the lens

We're excited to introduce the newest addition to Ocean Discovery Education - our portable microscope!

From intricate shells and mysterious marine specimens, this incredible tool will help older children dive even deeper into the wonders of the ocean.

The microscope will make its debut at our stall during Albany's Maritime Festival next weekend, where visitors can get up close with some of our smaller specimens and see them magnified in stunning detail.

The portable microscope will also feature during our upcoming 'Ocean Oddities' school holiday programs, encouraging the mini marine scientists that attend.

Which specimen is your favourite?

🌏 What an incredible day at the City of Cockburn's Earth & Ocean Schools Festival!

Held at the beautiful Wetland Centre, this event celebrated both World Environment Day and World Ocean Day. ODE had the privilege of running five interactive sessions with Year 4–6 students from local schools.

The curiosity and enthusiasm shown by these students was infectious. They asked thoughtful questions, eagerly shared their own experiences, and embraced every opportunity to participate.

Days like this remind me why I do what I do! Creating opportunities for young people to connect with the natural world, ask questions, and discover how amazing our planet is feels more important than ever.

A big thank you to the City of Cockburn for inviting me along. I left the festival feeling inspired, hopeful, and grateful to spend my days sharing my passion for the ocean with the next generation.
