Perth is the Western Gateway to Australia and the only Australian destination where you can fly directly to continental Europe. The $5b Perth Airport redevelopment, due to be completed within a decade, will position Western Australia as Qantas’ biggest hub behind Sydney.

Perfectly timed ahead of the Paris Olympics, the inaugural non-stop Qantas flight between Paris and Perth has launched, with celebrations held over the weekend.

On Sunday, celebrations were held at Perth Airport to coincide with Bastille Day, with Tourism WA Chair Di Bain presenting an opening address.

The near 17-hour flight will operate four days per week throughout the European summer and continue three times per week from mid-August 2024.

It will add more than 37,500 additional inbound seats from Europe to Perth each year, cutting more than three hours off the current fastest travel time between Paris and Perth.

I can attest to this … took my breath away when we stopped at Turquoise Bay.

Western Australia’s Turquoise Bay on Australia's Coral Coast, has been voted the best beach in Australia. 🌊

Located in the World Heritage-listed Ningaloo Marine Park (Nyinggulu) near Exmouth, Turquoise Bay was the only Australian beach to make the top ten in The World's 50 Best Beaches list - a ranking defined by its uniqueness, wildlife, clear calm waters and uncrowded idyllic conditions, as voted by the world's leading travel influencers and journalists.

Wharton Bay in Esperance (Kepa Kurl), within Australia's Golden Outback, also made the list, coming in at number 33. 🌅

Sophia is going to be incredible in this role. Save the date!!

2016 Acting 🎭 graduate, in Olivier Award-winning play Prima Facie

Rising Australian actor Sophia Forrest has been cast in the pivotal role of Tessa Ensler in Black Swan State Theatre Company’s exciting new production of Prima Facie, written by Olivier award-winning playwright Suzie Miller.

“It was a lengthy and very competitive casting process for what many would agree is the role of a lifetime for an actor,” said Artistic Director, Kate Champion. “Sophia grew up in WA and trained at WAAPA, and it is with great pride that I, Sophia, and the rest of the team head into the creation of a local production of this now famous contemporary Australian play. I look forward to seeing Sophia’s sparkling talent and fierce intelligence tackle this demanding role.”

Sophia made their professional theatre debut with Black Swan as the lead role of ‘Eli’, in the supernatural thriller Let the Right One In (2017). They were nominated for Most Popular New Talent at the 2018 Logie Awards for their role in the Network Ten TV series Love Child. Sophia’s numerous feature film credits include Reaching Distance, Warner Bros. Aquaman opposite Jason Momoa and Nicole Kidman and Rachel Griffith’s Ride like a Girl opposite Teresa Palmer and Sam Neill. Sophia was most recently seen in ABC’s television drama series Barons and Stan’s Bali 2002.

Sophia said, “I’m honoured to be reanimating this Australian story, which sadly is as deeply reflective of our country’s flawed legal system now, as it was in its premiere during the movement. Undertaking Tessa’s momentous journey on both sides of the law is daunting to say the least, but I am excited to be partnering with Kate Champion and her wealth of experience, to take the audience through the perspectives of judge, juror, complainant, and witness. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity to take on this masterpiece of Suzie’s and I can’t wait to begin.”

Prima Facie is a call to action for change, and a searing indictment of a legal system that has failed to provide reliable pathways to justice for women in sexual assault cases. It is a direct response to playwright Suzie Miller’s experience as a lawyer in the Human Rights sector and Criminal Justice system.

Tessa Ensler is a brilliant defence barrister addicted to winning. From working-class origins to the top of her game, Tessa will relentlessly prod, probe and cross-examine to bring the shadows of doubt in favour of her clients. However, a shocking turn of events shifts her to the other side of the witness stand, forcing her to confront the intersections of patriarchal power, the burden of proof, and moral ambiguities within the legal system.

Prima Facie achieved significant international acclaim in 2022, making its West End debut before transferring to Broadway in 2023. The production secured the Tony Award for Best Actress for Jodie Comer (Killing Eve) and the Olivier Award for Best New Play and Best Actress, in addition to other prestigious honours.

Prima Facie runs from 1 to 21 July in the Heath Ledger Theatre.

I am proud to present the Western Australia Visitor Economy Strategy 2033 (WAVES 2033), developed by Tourism WA and officially launched by the WA Government today.

WAVES 2033 marks the start of a ‘Dream Decade’ for WA’s incredible tourism industry. This ambitious 10-year plan outlines key goal areas and initiatives to grow visitor spend in to $25 billion by 2033, and to elevate WA as a world-class tourism destination that immerses people in its unique cultures, communities and environment.

This Strategy was developed in close consultation with the WA tourism industry and across 14 WA Government agencies. The WA Government has committed $530 million to Tourism WA over the next four years to implement WAVES 2033, with delivery to be aligned with the Strategy’s guiding principles to be Sustainable, Inclusive, Collaborative and Innovative.

WAVES 2033 has been a huge undertaking and I congratulate all who have contributed to this significant project for our industry – particularly the Tourism WA staff, for all their hard work.

We want to make sure that those who are doing it tough have access to the support they need - when they need it.

Today, our Government is announcing more funding for WA's homelessness services and programs.

It'll mean they can continue to deliver reliable and culturally-appropriate support for Western Australians sleeping rough.

And it'll ensure we can provide outreach services to those who need it most.

It's nearly $50 million in funding, going straight to key local organisations across our State.

Because our Government is absolutely committed to stopping the cycle of homelessness here in WA.
