Brilliant timely for our group as we trekked toward Naduri last week.
Coming the opposite direction was the legendary Bill James who is the author of the wonderful guide book our trekkers read in the lead up to the trek. A mountain of knowledge ... he was generous enough to address our group with some of his historical insights.

With the passing of the 110th anniversary of the tragic August Offensive at Gallipoli (including Lone Pine and The Nek), this memorial at my local park in Perth brought an extra layer of melancholy this morning.

Our trek medic, Dr Huw Clarke, who is an Emergency Department physician in Perth, was kept busy this trip. An array of injuries including a damaged cornea, deep slice to a forearm, and numerous ulcers and abscesses presented throughout the journey.
Thanks to his knowledge, professionalism and compassion, all our trekkers and porters were able to successfully complete the journey and finish in a relatively comfortable space.

Disease and illness.
The Kokoda and northern beach campaigns of 1942 and early 1943 claimed around 7,700 allied battle casualties (Australian 🇦🇺 and American 🇺🇸).
At the same time 37,000 became casualties to tropical disease 🦠.
Staggering numbers.
