It’s that time of night at Ioribaiwa.
As the sun sets, and the words of Bert Beros’ poem still lingering within your subconscious … you wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.

What a moment for our flag bearers Jessica Sutton and KC Lead Guide Gerry Amuli as they are about to cross under the arches.
Jess spent months training by herself in the deep south of WA and came very well prepared. Understated and with not a word of complaint throughout the journey, I’m sure her great grandfather, BRIG Arnold Potts would have been suitably proud.

We were absolutely rapt for these two fellas.
Tim Norrish and David Thomas
They trekked in honour of their grandfather LT Keith Norrish, whose story is hard to believe.
After being shot at point blank range during the battle at Brigade Hill, four bullets entered his chest, three of which hit a mirror he had sitting in his shirt pocket. One bullet clipped the pericardium of his heart whilst another lodged in his left bicep.
With fractured ribs and a punctured lung, he took 5.5 days to walk back to Owers’ Corner, during which time he was unable to lie down.
Keith survived the war and ended up marrying his fiancé, whose recently arrived letters were also in his shirt pocket.
An incredible story of guts, determination, courage, tenacity, an over whelming will to live and ultimately, love.
Throughout the trek, each of the boys wore an identity disc (aka dog tags) belonging to their grandfather.
Hats off to you boys.

It’s an epic sight looking back down the Eora Creek valley as you arrive into Alola.
Location of Brigade HQ as the battle raged at Isurava and along the Missima Track - August 1942.
