Beneath the star-studded sky of Numbung National Park, Western Australia, an astrophotographer captures the stunning contrast between the vast, endless cosmos and the rugged earth below. A distant 4WD’s headlights pierce the darkness, casting an eerie glow across the desert-like landscape. The beams of light momentarily illuminate the striking Pinnacles, their ancient limestone spires reaching toward the heavens. The interplay of natural and artificial light creates a surreal scene, where the stars above seem almost close enough to touch, and the landscape below feels both timeless and transient under the bright, intrusive light of the vehicle.

An uncropped look at a popular image of mine shot during winter on my favorite island, Tasmania. This landscape image was taken during very blizzardy conditions which I’m glad to say my trusty Canon 5D survived. Needless to say, it was completely worth it to spend time with a wombat in the snow.

I’ve been waiting since missing a great show of the Southern Lights back in early December to have a chance to see it myself from outside of Perth. Well, I’ve been checking forecasts daily for over three months now and no show. So, here is one from the northern hemisphere. Can you guess the country? Hint: the foreground

Celebrating the glorious Western Arthur’s of Tasmania. The light in this image can only be achieved by a daring winter venture into this formidable range of mountains and lakes. I spent around a week not travelling particularly far due to inclement weather (rain, mist, low cloud, snow, rain, wind) but enjoying the dramatic landscape. This direct light on the Pegasus peaks was available due to the Earth’s position to the sun during July which is the middle of winter. If you are wondering, no I didn’t see another soul. And yes, I’d do it again, but maybe with warmer socks 🥶 😊
