Hosting visiting Italian journalist Mirco Paganelli in the Swan Valley was an absolute treat. Paul spent the day taking him through the region’s winemaking roots - meeting families who’ve been crafting wine here for four generations, long before the Swan Valley was on any visitors' radar.

And yes, we fully expected some healthy scepticism from someone whose homeland has been making wine for about 4,000 years - but Mirco leaned right into this slightly younger chapter of wine history. He met the families behind the labels, heard the stories that don’t make it into guidebooks, and very happily enjoyed plenty of wine and food - the ultimate compliment.

It’s the kind of day we love sharing on our private tours: real people, real heritage, and a region with far more depth than most visitors ever expect.

Not your average 'lookout stop', this little detour for the curious traveller is the Lake Clifton Thrombolites - ancient, living microbial structures that are rare, fragile, and absolutely fascinating. It's one of the few places on the planet where you can get a window into a world that existed billions of years before any of us! Before the doors open, we were invited to preview the new Idée Fixe sparkling salon - aka The Margaret River Region's new temple of Blanc de Blancs. Think méthode traditionnelle production with serious precision, but served in a space so calm and beautiful you’ll want to move in. The tasting experience here is a deep dive into clone and terroir: saline edges, minerality, fine bead, and that gorgeous tension between citrus brightness and creamy lees complexity. It’s every bit as elegant as you’d expect from this team, and something that our sparkling‑obsessed guests are going to savour. We can’t wait to include Idée Fixe on our Perth to Margaret River tour itineraries, very soon 🍾
