Flight delayed. Kids restless. Now what?

Late last month, more than ten thousand bags were held up at the airport and many flights were delayed. No one can control a day like that, but you can prepare for it.

- Keep the kids' essentials in your carry-on: milk, snacks, medication, a spare outfit
- If a bag doesn't arrive, report it before leaving the airport
- Check that your travel insurance covers flight and baggage delays

And save the number of whoever manages your booking. While you're looking after the kids, someone else can be checking your options.

🌱 Eating Jay this year? Skipping meat is only half the rule.

🌱 กินเจ ไม่ใช่แค่งดเนื้อสัตว์นะ! ยังมีอีกหลายอย่างที่ทำให้ "เจแตก" แบบไม่รู้ตัว

The Phuket Vegetarian Festival started over 200 years ago, when a sick Chinese opera troupe recovered after giving up meat and alcohol and praying to the Nine Emperor Gods. Today it's 9 days of white clothing, yellow "Jay" flags and amazing vegetarian street food.

📅 Key dates 2026
- Oct 9: Cleansing day (prepare your body)
- Oct 10: Day 1, festival begins
- Oct 11-17: Days 2-8
- Oct 18: Final day
- Oct 19: Back to normal eating

Avoid during the festival
- Meat and seafood
- 5 pungent plants: garlic, onions (red/white), rakkyo (Chinese onion), garlic chives, to***co leaf
- Milk, butter and animal fats
- Very salty, sweet, sour or spicy food
- Alcohol

Strict followers also avoid sharing dishes with non-vegetarians and only eat food cooked by people eating Jay.

Visiting Phuket?
- Oct 10-12: relaxed, great for families and food
- Oct 14-17: main processions and fire walking
- Oct 18: final night, biggest crowds
- Wear white and give rituals space

Sydney 10:00 = Perth 07:00 = Thailand 06:00

3 hours ahead of WA
4 hours ahead of Thailand
Same for VIC, ACT and TAS. WA, QLD and NT stay the same.
Runs until 4 April 2027.

Tip: flight times on your ticket are always local time. Connecting via Sydney or Melbourne? Double-check your transfer.

- บางบัตรตัดความคุ้มครองยกเลิกทริปและกระเป๋า
- บางบัตรคุ้มครองแค่ 30 วัน
- บางบัตรไม่มีแล้ว

From today (01/10/26), several major Australian banks are cutting back or removing the complimentary travel insurance on their credit cards.

The main reason: the RBA is reducing the fees banks earn when you tap your card, so the "free extras" are the first to go.

What's changing (conditions vary by card):

- Westpac (1 Oct): trip cancellation, travel delay and luggage cover removed / higher medical excess / shorter maximum trip length / must activate before you travel
- CommBank (29 Sep): cover reduced or removed on some cards
- NAB (since 15 May): removed on some cards, cut from 3 months to 30 days on others
- ANZ (9 Dec): lower limits on some cards, removed entirely on others

*Cover depends on each bank and card type. Please check your card's latest PDS before you travel.

Australian passport? Don't plan 60 days in Thailand anymore. ✈️

From 15 September 2026, Thailand's visa-free stay was cut from 60 to 30 days for 60 countries, including Australia, New Zealand, the UK, the USA and all EU countries. It now covers tourism only.

Many travellers are still planning trips around the old 60-day rule. If you entered Thailand before 15 September, your 60-day stamp stays valid. Any new entry gets 30 days. 📅
