Lest We Forget: Pinjarra

October 28, 1834, early morning

Binjareb: invaded by 25 armed, mounted Swan River colonists who, led by Governor, James Stirling, carried out a planned raid killing dozens of Noongar people and leaving no one alive or so they assumed…
Our ancestor, George Winjan who was a small boy at the time, escaped but saw his family murdered.
This is was no ‘battle’ and contrary to other accounts online today, the colonists didn’t just ‘happen to come across the natives’. The raid was deliberate and well-planned aiming to break the spirit of the ‘troublesome ‘natives’ in the region.

This is just one of over 400 massacres of Indigenous people across this land mass which occurred into the 1960s.

Vale.

As current Chairperson of the Western Australian Tourism Operators Council, our Walter is hard at work with many of the buyers of WA-based Aboriginal tour products.
Snapped here with two of THE most passionate, hard-working individuals you’ll meet in the industry, WAITOC CEO, Robert Taylor and veteran owner-operator, Josh Whiteland of 🌟
Getting through the ATE (Australian Tourism Exchange) every year is no mean feat. The ATE is a serious, bustling marketplace with 2600 delegates on the floor of buying and selling all day everyday for 5 days. It’s Tourism version of Survivor* if you can pace yourself for the multiple appointments, conversations and networking events you need to have🤯through the week.

Kwobadatj waaginyn, katitjin! A great opportunity to talk and learn was shared between this great mix of Island visitors earlier this week.

Much of our work involves local audiences- independent travellers, school groups, corporate groups seeking an Indigenous perspective of where they live. We love meeting them all and look forward to many more walks and talks to come👣.
