Visa application charge waiver or refunds by Department of Home Affairs:
Great news! The Department of Home Affairs has just announced a media release re Supporting tourism and agriculture through visa application charge changes. Visitor visa holders, working holiday makers, temporary skilled workers, prospective marriage visa holders will be able to receive waiver of their next visa application charge of refund of visa application charge of their current visa if their entry to or stay in Australia has been affected by travel restrictions of Australia.

Good news! A new Priority Migration Skilled Occupation List (PMSOL) of 17 occupations has been announced today. It will give visa holders who have been sponsored by an Australia business in a PMSOL occupation priority to obtain exemption from Australia travel restrictions due to COVID-19 to enter Australia on their Australian temporary visa. They will still be subject to a strict 14-day quarantine upon arrival at their own expense.

These 17 occupations include:

Student visa - relaxation work restrictions

Arrangements have been made to relax the 40 hour per fortnight work restrictions for student visa holders in specific sectors. Student visa holders working in supermarkets (existing staff in existing roles where that work assists to ensure the supply of groceries to and in supermarkets or related online distribution facilities) may work longer hours if their employing supermarket has gained approval from the
Department.

We also had some ENS/186 visas approved recently within 5-6 months while the current Dept of Home Affairs’ average processing time for these visas is over 1 year.
